Even if it's two, if that's the rate of growth--2 new cases for every one--that's not good.count2infinity wrote:I'll set the over/under at 2.5 total people contract ebola from him or from people that have contracted it from him. I'll take the under all day, every day.

Re: ¡EBOLA!
when they put people in isolation that had direct contact with that person who actually has ¡EBOLA!, do they stop there or go after people that had contact with those that had direct contact? Or do they wait and see if someone else gets it and then start looking at who they had contact with before they were quarantined?

Re: ¡EBOLA!
It depends. Ebola isn't contagious unless the carrier is showing symptoms. If someone was put into isolation because they had contact with a symptomatic ebola carrier, but aren't showing symptoms themselves, then it would stop there. If they are showing symptoms, then anyone who had contact with those people would need to be put into isolation as well.eddysnake wrote:when they put people in isolation that had direct contact with that person who actually has ¡EBOLA!, do they stop there or go after people that had contact with those that had direct contact? Great story that embodies all the complexities of the issue. Medical realities vs hysteria, isolationist ideas vs actual ending the epidemic. The truth is a lot in this county would gladly plug their ears about the outbreak in Africa and pretend that it's not a problem as long as it's over there. But the only way to end the spread of the disease is to stop it spreading everywhere.

That' fine, in the meantime banning recreational visits back and forth from areas known with high infection rates should be stopped. American companies working on a vaccine should be given incentives in tax breaks to set up labs and offices in those countries to advance studies. There's no reason we can't expect both to happen right now.

In terms of travel by US citizens to and from these countries (though mostly from), I really don't see why that can't be limited to chartered flights. I want to see doctors like the one who went bowling in NYC to continue to assist people in West Africa, but you sure as hell don't want them flying coach back to JFK.

The story of the quarantined nurse in New Jersey is entertaining.

This story is getting worse. On returning home to rural Maine, the governor has ordered her to quarantine herself. Which she isn't doing, and his response is basically, well if someone kills her, that's her fault.tifosi77 wrote:The story of the quarantined nurse in New Jersey is entertaining.
This country is insane. Thanks cable news and social media.

Seems like Maine is just going above and beyond to keep people safe. Isn't that what everyone wants? I thought logic doesn't apply in these situations.

It's funny because all the medical professionals have said that you really need to have prolonged exposure to be at high risk. Like, if you shake hands with a symptomatic Ebola patient... you probably won't get sick. If you're living with them or caring for them, then you probably will without proper training/precautions.
