Saw people wearing masks on a plane last night. I felt it was over dramatic.

There seems to be a relatively large population of asian students who live near me, and I see them with masks on walking down Centre ave all the time.

No matter where I travel to, there's always Asian people wearing masks. It's like a cultural paranoia for them or something.pittsoccer33 wrote:There seems to be a relatively large population of asian students who live near me, and I see them with masks on walking down Centre ave all the time.

I believe surgical masks are designed to prevent the wearer from spreading an infection and not prevent the wearer from getting an infection. I think in Asia its considered polite to wear one.

Re: ¡EBOLA!
yeah, the masks aren't to not get sick, it's to try to stop the spread of that person's disease on to others. I thought the other way around when I first saw it as well, and then looked it up.

Judge says nurse who treated ¡EBOLA! patients does not have to be fully quarantined.
http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/post ... s/?hpid=z1" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;A judge who had temporarily agreed to quarantine Kaci Hickox, a Maine nurse who had treated Ebola patients, ruled Friday that she did not have to have her movements restricted.
The state of Maine had won a small victory in its quest to quarantine Hickox, as Judge Cearles C. LaVerdiere on Thursday ordered her to limit her movements and keep a certain distance from members of the public. This order was to stand until the court issued any additional guidance, which LaVerdiere did Friday.
LaVerdiere said Friday that she should continue daily monitoring and coordinate any travel with public-health officials, but said that her movements did not have to be completely restricted.

I wish that nurse that was quarantined in NJ had recourse against Christie for that unjustified detainment.

she only got all that "treatment" because she was being a self-absorbed a-hole.

Re: ¡EBOLA!
I think they quarantined her after she refused to self quarantine. Basically people in her area and NJ were freaking out over Ebola, and then she comes in saying "**** it I don't care where I go because science says I am ok!!" Yes she was correct, but was a complete jerk about it. If I was a health professional and went and helped in that situation and came back and everyone was freaking out, I would certainly just "inconvenience" myself (the states were going to pay them to stay home), just to keep people calm.

I would think the lesson to be learned is that the public freak out was the error, and people in positions of power should be able to act independent of idiot generated hysteria.

It was for her protection as well... she was getting death threats.

Re: ¡EBOLA!
After being detained right?
The way I understood the situation was it became news when she went public by writing to media outlets after being detained. The problem was that she had to go public to get herself out of that tent in NJ. Otherwise I don't think people would have any idea who she was or where she had been. I would say the initial quarantine was the error.

she recorded a fever at the airport with a forehead scanner, then was transported to the hospital and put in quarantine until she tested negative for ebola. Could they have dealt with it better? Yes. Did she go overboard? Yes.
