I got a little thing of Bulleit that I brought with pre-gaming or post-gaming at a wedding I went to...but I shared most of the bottle and was already in the bag by the time I had it...so I'm going to have to try it again to get a good feel for it...

With this cider deal, I'll wrap up the last of my Jim Beam in short order and then probably go back to Bulleit for a real look...

Wine Review. Johnson Estate, Liebestropfchen. 750 ml. bottle, no punt. Having never heard of the Liebestropfchen grape, and the flavor advertised as a "a rich, fruity, semi-sweet wine similar in flavor and character to a fine French Sauternes", I was all in on a trade.

Chilled to a proper white temp, when corked, there was a slight sweet smell. After 15 minutes, the first pour was into a Sauternes glass, the second into a Chardonnay glass. The Sauternes glass held the sweet flavor too tight, where the other glass allowed the aroma to come through. The larger glass brought out hints of citrus and fruit, similar to a lower level Viognier, yet much more sweet. Not in a bad Concord white wine way, but enough residual sugar to let you know what the grape used was. I would venture to guess that this grape is Liebfraumilch, with a different spelling. Zero oak.

Web site says it will store for 4 - 6 years. If you get a bottle tomorrow, enjoy soon. A nice weekday wine.

Support your local wineries where possible.

The Liebestropfchen is definitely categorized well when you called it a weekday wine. Delaware (Ohio, not the first state) grapes are Delaware grapes. They are american hybrids...nothing spectacular about them, but their potential hasnt been fully realized yet. JE's attempts to compare them to the French Sauterne is a little much. Delaware grapes dont have quite the flavor of the muscadelle, but pretty close in terms of sweetness.

I didn't know lavender bitters were a thing? Do you have to make them yourself or are they available at the liquor store or supermarket?

I have gone about 11 years straight of always having a bottle of cachaça in the cabinet. Caipirinhas are my favorite cocktail.... but I cannot abide that Leblon stuff. It tastes like processed lime juice to me, sort of like pre-made margaritas. Not a fan.

If you like making cocktails, I suggest seeking out recipes for batidas, Brazilian fruit cocktails. This is a good starting place, and I've prepared several of her batidas for parties in the past. My favorite? Believe it or not, it's the sweet corn cocktail. Sounds gross, but it's actually really tasty.

Oh, I just meant I got a bottle of cachaca, not Leblon. I agree that is horrible stuff.

I'll check out the other recipes.

I'm cooking a roast right now and have 1 1/2 cups of this in the pot. I'll be drinking the rest of it, as I deem appropriate. (It could be gone by 3 pm, depending on how the Pitt game goes. :pop: ) Very reasonably priced and better than most < $10 wines at the grocery store.

:thumb: I've been doing the same. Trying it out with all sorts of liquor and I've found that in the summer I like tequila mules the best. Right now the Kentucky Mule (bourbon) is getting a good bit of glass time. I need to find a decent ginger beer though. The stuff I bought from Giant is meh at best.

I'll have to give it a shot. They have a convenient map system on their webpage on where you can buy it. Thanks in advance.
