2014-2015 Pirates Offseason Thread

Post by Troy Loney »

Martin looking for a five year deal similar to what McCann got. So bye.

Liriano is going to decline his QO. But with the pick compensation, his value could be something that the pirates afford.

I say address the starting pitcher needs in FA, trade for a catcher (castro and montero could be available, braves also made gattis available who could be a short term option). I would just give Alvarez the 1B job and not do something stupid like sign Adam Laroche.

My suggestion is to trade for Yasmani Grandal and hope he remembers how to hit his weight.

The mere mention of Big Worthless had me in the fetal position. You need to warn me before saying his name.

I wonder what he'd cost. His line last year (225 w/15 HR) is actually pretty close to what the Pirates thought they were getting from Martin when they signed him. And probably what whoever signs him will be getting going forward....maybe closer to 250, but not much better.

Montero's contract might make him cheap in terms of trade value. he'd provide at least league average defense I think and might hit a little better than he did last year.

Laroche keeps getting mentioned with regards to the Pirates. I know it's not unreasonable to link a mid tier FA at the position of need for a team. But these people should just get that idea out of their heads.

Only threw out 13/66 stolen bases (Martin was 37/96) and is a below-average pitch framer even with the strikezone the Braves get. He would be a huge downgrade and what he adds with his bat wouldn't make up for it. I wouldn't mind him at first base though.

The Pirates have a serious obsession with Yankees' catchers.

Seems solid, but devoid of power at the plate. How is he defensively?

He's a former Yankee so he's a quality pitch framer.

Sucks to lose a guy with Wilson's stuff but he worked his way out of Hurdle's Bullpen Circle of Trust with his inability to throw strikes.
