Wow, good for him. I'm glad the Bucs didn't throw that much at him

Good luck Russell Martin. Five years; that's a security blanket.

Sad to lose him but you can't commit to 5 years to him. Go sign Liriano now.

Amen. Won't ever forget the scene after the Cueto chant and the HR. What a moment.

The Pirates got their money's worth and a compensatory pick and Russ re-established his market value.

Being a Chicagoan, I can say I'm very happy I wont have to see Russell Martin facing the Pirates every year. It would just make my stomach turn watching that. Glad he's going to an American League team at least. 5 years/82 mil is a lot...I think its the smart move to lay off that, but I'd be curious to know what the Pirates offered. I'm really sad to see him go regardless. Big shoes to be filled for certain next season.

Yeah not upset the Pirates didn't give out that kind of cash. Happy for what Martin contributed, and happy he got his payday. Good for him.

I'll be honest, it's kind of cool he gets to go home to Canada. He'll be a fan favorite.

Well until year 3 or 4 of that contract.

Especially cause Miller is a fastball pitcher and the only cardinal starter that the pirates could hit.

The Pirates owned Miller. I could see Heyward finally turning into a stud with some protection around him. This isn't good

Glad Martin went to Toronto, they are a team I can root for. Although, they're still probably not going anywhere in the AL east.

Plus, with him signing with the Blue Jays instead of the Cubs, Pirates move up another spot in the 2015 draft.

I know Martin's home run in the Cueto game might be more significant, but I will always remember this picture when I think of Martin.

That is a great pic. The Pirates fan in the middle makes it even more awesome.

I was all for the Pirates going into the 4 year/$60 million range, but the BJs topped even my expectations for him.

We don't even know what Taillon and Glasnow are. I think the window is now. That doesn't mean give Martin 5/82, but the team is good enough that they've made two straight postseason appearances. This is the window.

I'll reiterate that I agree with Cutch: they need to get an everyday first baseman.

Yeah, I should have worded that differently. This is a competitive window now, but currently there's too much of a talent gap with them against the playoff teams. The championship window is contingent on those three starters staying healthy and anchoring the rotation before 2019.

The Royals went to the World Series this year. The window is now. Who cares about 2019.
