It's the relationship thread, for starters.
So? Let the conversation flow smoothly. Don't be a thread Nazi
You don't get it. What else is new. Probably went over your head.

Me neither, but I'm guessing the people who do are the ones who complain that they can't find a mate.

My wife and I would definitely not be married if musical preference was part of the consideration.

Yo ;) being a music snob ive become instantly turned off by a potential dates musical choices. And no...if they dont like Pearl Jam its not a deal breaker.
That's weird to me. The best relationships dont necessarily spawn from liking the same things. Sometimes, opposites make great partnerships
That's something i had to learn. Dated a girl who i had so much in common with that we quickly had nothing to talk about. Was super weird

Definitely remember knowing girls that I did not eeven really think about dating because we were too much alike. Being complimentary to each others personalities (and quirks) is important.

I just wanted to post an update in my relationship. Though a lot of counseling (just me, wife refused to go) my marriage has never been better. Seriously, if you are having marriage issues, I can fully endorse finding a good counselor. I found a wonderful woman that really helped me understand all our problems and helped me work though them one by one. She helped me help my wife. I still have issues to work on, but at least I feel like I have a partner in life again. Our communication with each other has never been better and our commitment to each other is as strong as ever. For now, things are going really well. A year ago, I thought we were finished. So much can change in a year.

Thanks slaps, I feel alive again. A marriage in distress just sucks the life out of a person.

Great work, bh. Awesome that you stuck with it. Marriage really is work, and you already know that, but a lot of couples don't.

I've been considering looking at counseling in the future. We did it for a while before when we hit a rough patch and it was great. Now things are awesome and I've heard just going from time to time even when things are going well does wonders for keeping on track.

It really is nice to talk to someone outside of the situation. Well done sir. It takes a real man to do something like that.

You said your wife refused to go. What is her stance now? Did she see that it helped immensely and reconsider?

This is my question, too.

I may have done this.

It wasn't the sole reason. In fact it might have even been far down the list, but her choice of music was **** terrible.

If i were meeting someone casually and it turned out that they were into some awful music it could prevent me from continuing to speak with them.

certainly having things in common are important for some things. music is person by person. My wife and I do not have very similar music tastes; however music is not a big part of either of our lives, so it really doesn't matter. If music is a big part of your life, I could see where you'd want them to share that interest.

Liking the same tv shows is kind of important. Liking the same movies is slightly less important. Liking the same music doesn't matter at all.

Not liking the same tv shows isn't a big deal if you have more than one tv in the house, or have DVR. There are like two shows that both myself and my wife both like that we watch together. Other than that we have opposite tastes for TV shows.

My wife and I watch a lot of shows together, but she has a handful she watches that makes me think less of her as a person.

At the end of the day it doesn't matter, we have other things we like to do together as well.

Its not so much that me and a girl like the same music. I just don't think I'm compatible with a girl that listens primarily to pop music because that to me tells me (probably irrationally) that she doesn't really think for herself. I would rather she like non-pop that I don't enjoy like Tool, Mastadon, whatever. That way it at least shows that she isn't afraid to go against the grain and what not.

Girls like pop music. It's a thing. Don't over think it.
