You know we were listening to Bettman's comments on the issue last night. It's pretty bad when Rendell can actually make HIM look good. :x

Do you know how politics work? Why do you think people/corporations donate $$ to politicians? Out of the goodness of their hearts? No, it is to buy influence. It is an investment. Pens owner Ron Burkle might be the single largest donor in the entire Democratic party. He is easily in the top 5. Do you think this whale would get pushed around by some punk goldfish?

Rendell appoined 3 members to the commission. The state leadership of the Democratic/Republican Senate/House appointed the other 4.

I would hope he wouldn't be pushed around, BUT why hasn't he already used his influence to get Rendell on board with the Pens plan. I would expect his investment to double, and that is conservative, if the Pens get a new arena. To donate an extra $1mill for him would be nothing to raise your profit to $24 million.

Also, is the gaming board even allowed to negotiate with applicants?

Relax. Rendell said yesterday the license won't be awarded before November at the earliest. This could drag into 2007 since the declaration of complete applications has not occurred yet. There is no reason for anybody to make their best/final pitches right now. Posters are acting as if the license will be awarded at 4PM today. As I posted before the gaming board can put conditions on licenses.

I hope you are right. The recent pay raise debacle has given people here a very poor opinion of the entire political process. Alot of us that have dealt with this "commonwealth" know that they have a unique ability to do nothing right and screw things up.
