Does anyone have a kindle paperwhite? If so, it is worth upgrading to it from a second gen kindle? My kindle doesn't hold a change long any more and the charging port is wonky.

I have a Paperwhite I inherited, and I like it much better than my prior Kindle. The screen is better, the backlight is so useful I can't imagine going back. Also, the Paperwhite has a better interface that is more useful than older Kindles. If I were buying a new one now, I think I might spring the extra money for the Voyage. It can be a little annoying to tap the screen to change pages, so I think I’d pay for the Voyage which added back in separate page-turning buttons. Either way, IMO a Paperwhite is totally worth the upgrade.

Hunger Games. Pretty good, much more brutal/detailed than the movie.

I own, but haven't read it yet. North Korea related.
Looks interesting. I just bought it. Thanks for the referral!

This is my opinion as well, I made the jump from the older Kindle to the Paperwhite and the integrated LED lighting makes it worth it. The only thing I don't like is Amazon disabling web browsing and some other stuff over 3G. Boo. My old Kindle bailed me out in Ireland because I was able to pull-in the AT&T signal.

I'd like to get a Paperwhite eventually. I absolutely hate my Fire.

I have relatives with dyslexia who have serious problems reading. My grandfather was a doctor, but he was a slow reader all his life. I don't have that problem, but I will say I suck at doing math in my head. I got much better grades in advanced math like trig and calc than I did in basic math in elementary and junior high because once you get to that point you can use calculators. I would literally not trust myself to add 7+7 without using my calculator.

Lol. I read every day. I just haven't read much in the way of novels or standard non fiction lately. Since I lost my vehicle in June I haven't been listening to books.

Already about halfway through Hockeynut!'s book. Very cool! I love road trips and horror. This book is perfect for me.

I haven't seen all the movies yet (surprised?) so I'm going to start from the beginning and just work through it while watching the movies. The only one I cheated on was Shawshank, read that chapter to get a feel for it.

That's a good way to do it. I've actually seen all of the movies but I might do a watch/read combo on the second go around

I'm about 80% through the audiobook for Unbroken. Anybody else read this? What an amazing story! I find myself questioning whether all this is real or if the author/Zamperini added a little flair. I don't know how many times I've come away listening to this and wanting to find The Bird and beat the living daylights out of him - knowing full well the guy is probably dead by now.

I actually listened to that as well - the recently late Edward Herrmann read the book. It was excellent.

I just finished All the Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr. Excellent book, beautifully and meticulously written.

Next up, is When Books Went to War: The Stories that Helped Us Win World War II. It's about the reading program that got cheap, mass market paperbacks out to troops around the globe. Very interesting program that helped improve literacy and pave the way for the G.I. Bill's success in getting veterans into college.

While packing we went though all of our books and got rid of about half of them. Our rule was we could keep the book if it met any of these criteria:

1) It is part of a series we love (there are 2 series that we keep)
2) It is a book we love (not just liked a lot)
3) We would be happy to give it to someone so they could enjoy it (not expecting to get it back)

Going through them all I realized how many books I had that I have not read. I've decided to keep a book on my night stand and do some reading every night instead of look at my phone. First up is Crazy Love by Francis Chan. I think I'm going to stick to non-fiction for the first few.

However, I have this massive eye grabber staring at me from the bookshelf all the time. I may have to tackle it soon...

I listened to Insomnia as a audiobook. Wish I had read that one as I might have enjoyed it more.

Harper Lee annoys me, but I think we covered that already.

Just watched To Kill A Mockingbird last weekend. Atticus Finch is up there with one of the best characters ever.

I agree, and to think... if the story was written about him today, he would be cast out as a rape apologist by most SJW.

Read this last week. Two of my friends praised it, so I had a feeling I would like it. It was pretty much non stop entertainment. Definitely suggest it to anyone that would be interested in a WW2 historical fiction piece.
