Monroeville Mall has been arching towards Century Three status for a few years.

I do tend to lean toward online for a lot of items.Idoit40fans wrote:Amazon.com is everywhere.
...actually this Christmas was the first time I had been to a mall since, well, last Christmas.
Never mind then.

Re: Monroeville Mall Riot/Fight
The Pittsburgh Mills mall isn't bad, but it's about 20 minutes north of the city. It has a Walmart/Sams Club/Lowes/Best Buy in the same area/plaza as well, but not attached to the mall itself. Movie theater attached to the mall too, plus some decent food options.
It's by no means perfect, but it's the reason I haven't had to go the Monroeville Mall in years since it's like 7 minutes from my house if I drive.

I always found the actual mall to be a bust, for how hyped it was its pretty barren and I feel like half of the stores in the actual mall are knock offs.skullman80 wrote:The Pittsburgh Mills mall isn't bad, but it's about 20 minutes north of the city. When I try to give malls a bad rap my wife stops and reminds me about Westmoreland Mall. She's right. For as dumb, useless, and generally lame malls are as an institution Westmoreland does a pretty good job. Probably why Greengate isn't there anymore.FreeCandy44 wrote:Westmoreland mall buddy...

As I kid I remember Greengate not updating the mall while Westmoreland transformed, it closed shortly after.dodint wrote:When I try to give malls a bad rap my wife stops and reminds me about Westmoreland Mall. Pretty good, I think it's more upscale. It's always incredibly busy.Sam's Drunk Dog wrote:How is Ross Park these days? I haven't been there in almost 10 years probably.

Re: Monroeville Mall Riot/Fight
The mall itself is hit or miss no doubt(Sears just closed there recently). It's still not awful though, and it's pretty clean, and has the normal stores you would see at a mall for the most part. Being all on one floor though always drove me nuts... Mall should just be at least 2 floors haha. Having Best Buy/Sams Club/Walmart/Lowes/Cinemark Movie Theater etc all in that same area/plaza though saves me from having to go anywhere else pretty much.Malkamaniac wrote:I always found the actual mall to be a bust, for how hyped it was its pretty barren and I feel like half of the stores in the actual mall are knock offs.skullman80 wrote:The Pittsburgh Mills mall isn't bad, but it's about 20 minutes north of the city. They had the better movie theater, but then Carmike came to Greensburg and shut down that one and the small theater that used to be in Westmoreland.Malkamaniac wrote:As I kid I remember Greengate not updating the mall while Westmoreland transformed, it closed shortly after.dodint wrote:When I try to give malls a bad rap my wife stops and reminds me about Westmoreland Mall. I go to the mall once a year, but it's a first class experience, i.e. it's not in West Mifflin.

Yup, I loved that theater. I miss Olympic Lanes too, which was right across from Greengate. So many good childhood memories.dodint wrote:They had the better movie theater, but then Carmike came to Greensburg and shut down that one and the small theater that used to be in Westmoreland.Malkamaniac wrote:As I kid I remember Greengate not updating the mall while Westmoreland transformed, it closed shortly after.dodint wrote:When I try to give malls a bad rap my wife stops and reminds me about Westmoreland Mall. My scout troop used to spend the night at Greengate. God so many good times at that mall, from the Tilt room to NRM to the old bird cage that used to be in the food court.

Re: Monroeville Mall Riot/Fight
FWIW, Ross Park Mall (and all other properties owned by Simon Property Group) has a complete "no weapons" policy that explicitly refers to and prohibits carry by those with concealed-carry permits. As a private-property owner, Simon is free to choose to implement this policy, but I would never set foot in there. Why would anyone possibly need a weapon in a shopping mall? Exhibit A to my answer would be the video at the start of this thread.Sam's Drunk Dog wrote:How is Ross Park these days? I haven't been there in almost 10 years probably.

Firing a gun off definitely would have diffused that situation.

And, just as a further push back, if one of the people involved did have a gun, wouldn't the outcome have been potentially much worse?

Doubtful that's what he was implying.
