I don't have the stats in front of me, but I really doubt the majority of users still use a PC for watching Netflix. They need to create a better search/browse function for over the top players.
True on both points, but I organize/search using the PC and watch Netflix...on just about every other kind of device. Android phone, iPad, Chromecast, BluRay, PS4, even the Wii back a few years ago.
Same. I remember getting an instant watch "dvd" in the mail for Wii to connect to Netflix. That was weird.
The unnecessary step of going to the PC to search/organize needs to be taken away. Netflix is clearly doing A-okay without my advice, but as PCs and laptops continue to be replaced with tablets and smart phones, their apps need to be fully capable of replicating the website experience. Right now, they are not. And I know that some people will always have a PC/lap top in their house, myself included, but I have friends who don't have a PC. Not to mention older people who don't want to deal with going to a website to find something to add to their queue, to then watch on their TV.

I did when I lived in the apartment for two months.
I agree the in-app browsing is awful and needs updating, just offering a solution for those that want to dig deeper. Which is funny, because Amazon Prime has awful browsing but a better search. Amazon, when browsing, puts each individual TV season in as a new entry so you get the same show over and over. They're getting better though.
Yet entering anything with a console controller or BluRay remote makes me want to rage. My guess is that voice searching using Google's technology would probably be a step in the right direction.
True. I use the SmartGlass app for my Xbone. When using AppleTV, I'll use the Remote app. I'm not sure if Roku has something similar. There are ways to make this easier, unfortunately they include using another device. This could be solved if instead of trying to make the AppleTV or Roku remote incredibly small, you throw a keypad on there. Or, and I could see Apple heading this way, the remote is actually a touch screen iPod-like device.

Roku has an app that's actually better than the XB and Apple remote apps

I dunno, maybe, but how many people bought a new tv since Thanksgiving that has a Netflix app and came with 3D glasses? I'd guess its a decently large number. Searching for things to watch isn't an advanced feature. Netflix just doesn't do it well.
And they are one of the few sources of 4K right now. So if I were still selling televisions I would use a customer's Netflix subscription as a selling point on a 4K tv. If you have to rely on the tv app to find ultra hd content that would be a major bummer.

People actually buy 3D tvs? I assumed that fad died when ESPN dropped 3D.
there are still lots of them. its built into a lot of midrange and higher ones. i think only vizio has dropped it as a cost saving measure among major brands.
4K is actually something that can really benefit 3D. On most 3D televisions it alternates between showing the left and right eyes sequentially. The LG passive models show each eye at the same time, but only at half the resolution (540p to each eye). A 4K tv would allow you to have both on the screen at once in 1080p each.
4k much like 3d is a really big niche market right now. Hell even Blu Ray's are still a bit niche. Most people aren't tech geeks. It's just the reality. I'll be interested to see if 4k actually has a market penetration. 3D has pretty much been a flop. I'm a big blu ray guy and even that format is not anywhere near where DVD's were at their peak.
I'd be most people who buy a 3D TV don't even use it, they buy it because it's included in most sets now as a way to get it in the marketplace. Even with them doing that it's still failing to gain any traction.
The sucessor to bluray was just announced last week. More than higher resolution, the big deal for me is better color compression and a higher range of colors. That could benefit everyone and the televisions they own now.

See even being a tech guy, I'd be in no hurry to upgrade my 300+ blu rays to 4k. Way toooo much $$$$$$.
I guess I'd by a set for TV purposes if you could get broadcast TV/cable/directv broadcasting in 4k, but at this point we can't even get 1080p broadcasts for most if any providers so meh.

IIRC, columbia can't have a satellite dish where he lives (apartment/condo situation).

they can't deny you having a satellite if you really want to fight it. been ruled on in the courts/fcc. if you really want a satellite there is almost always a way.
