LGP Sickness Thread

Post by cma3585 »

I've been dealing with C-diff with over a month now. First round of antibiotics (2 weeks) helped after 6 or so days for a few days, then regressed to finish it out. Put on a second round of a different one, felt fine 2 days in for the last week, finished the course a couple days ago, and now experiencing symptoms again. Just a maddening experience. From reading numerous online resources, sometimes it takes 6 months to a year to be fully cleared.

Cool. A shafnutz thread.

That sucks about the long term aspects of your condition. It has to be frustrating. I just started taking an anti-fungal (toes) that is a 9 month course of treatment. Ugh.

I'd have done a fecal transplant (DIY if necessary) by now if I were you. The success rate and almost immediate relief have to outweigh the ick factor.

C-Diff spits in the face of Norovirus. Very sorry to hear that.

90% effective vs C. Diff with results in hours or days. It instantly repopulates the intestine with the bacteria that are missing and allowing the C Diff to take over.

They do have a pill, but the most effective way is still transplantation via colonoscopy.

Or DIY with a blender and enema.

Yeah, I've been loading up on fiber bars and Greek yogurt. I was told that should be enough to help. Never heard of the fecal transplant but they said they couldn't do a colonoscopy until the C-diff is cleared up. It's entirely possible it is and my colon/stomach are just very sensitive considering my symptoms aren't as bad as they once were.

To elaborate further, I have a history of precancerous colon polyps so the colonoscopy needs done regardless. So they're essentially waiting for the C-diff to clear up before they go in and check. It's an every 3 year check and I'm pushing 3 years and was experiencing some symptoms prior to the C-diff.

I'm also reading about the fecal transplant online and seems they only do it as a last resort. I'm sure after only 2 antibiotic courses they're probably going to want to try another or another option beyond antibiotics prior to thinking about it.

Most doctors seem to be grossed out by the idea, and of course until it can be made into a sellable product Big Pharma is against it, but with a 90% success rate and almost instant results, it should really be the gold standard of C Diff treatment.

Put on 2-3 sweatshirts or sweaters, long johns, and sweat pants. Take 2-3 shots of whiskey neat. Wrap yourself in a blanket or two. Sweat it out. It's not a cure all and it doesn't always work but I'd say 75% of the time it nips a cold right in the bud before it gets going for me.

As I posted in another thread, a coworker thought he had the flu for about 2 weeks and suddenly passed away Friday after finally going to the ER 12 days later. He was in the ER/hospital for 4 days. Turned out it was sepsis. So going to the doctor is not a wimp move IMO.
