I have a son that constantly tests positive for it, despite not having symptoms for it. Three cycles of antibiotics last year and he still had it...a carrier, I guess.

When my throat was that bad last year my doctor called in some sort of steroid I think... throat was better in 24 hours. That was after almost a week of suffering, sucking on cough drops, drinking tea with honey, drinking just honey, getting some throat spray, getting rx throat spray(They called it some sort of magic solution but didnt work).. nothing worked until the doc gave me those steroids. Not sure what they were, but they were magic.

went to bed feeling a little stuffy, woke up this morning full blown miserable. Nose is stuffy and running at the same time, coughing non-stop, headache... fantastic stuff. Had planned to go to a career fair this afternoon, but it's looking more and more like that's not an option.
Heeeeeeeeelp, heeeeeeeeelp. My throat is killing me. I've had the flu for like 3 days now. Thought it was getting better yesterday, but as night came, it got worse again. This morning my throat is hurting so badly, I'm afraid to cough. My mom is bringing some cough syrup in a couple hours. I have the Halls cough drop things and they make things a little better, but not enough. If this doesn't go away in 2 days, I'll have to go see my doc. :(

Oh yeah, nose is both stuffed and water-like running right down to my lips if I don't catch it in time. Yuck.

And muscle pains.

Ok, I'll ask for Chloraseptic. I don't see the blue one anywhere, but I guess any Chloraseptic Max spray(?) will help.

Ugh NYC is an orgy of sickness. Last Friday on the train there was a woman coughing hysterically right next to me and of course I get sick for the first time in years. I was able to work from home yesterday but had to come to work today

I had that 2 days ago, then yesterday it seemed to dry out, but it started again this morning...

Yeah. That's the worst thing, waiting for the other sickness shoe to drop, i.e. being the last healthy person in the house.

It happens a lot at my house (not this school year though, knock on wood) with two kids in elementary school and my wife a teacher at the same school. This stomach bug we had last spring....<shudders>

lol, I do understand though. Being sick sucks, no question. Being sick and feeling bed-ridden, but also having to take care of a sick and miserable kid that can't take care of him or herself? Absolutely hell on earth. There is nothing I wanted more than to just do what I used to do---lay in bed, heavily medicated, and watch Netflix or play on my phone or do whatever...and the realization I couldn't do that was torture.

And yes, I realize that I consciously made the decision to have kids so I can't complain either

yeah, we don't deserve any sympathy. it was our choice. but maybe i'm offering a "could be worse" dose of perspective. people love getting those without asking, right?

Does a parrot count? It's like having a perpetual 2 year old. He won't stop whining or yelling unless you play with him much of the time.

pets count to an extent. being sick and taking care of a life is brutal no matter how you slice it. the significant difference is that you and the pet won't be sick at the same time.

Well, I said that because I love the little guy but he's a pain. He bit the antenna off my VTech phone. He learned to cry/sound just like a baby (original owner's son had a kid). He also does a perfect seagull imitation and so loud it actually hurts the inside of your ear when you are near him (he got that off a Disney movie my mom played him). And as I said, he wants constant attention. I didn't even mention that somebody has to make him scrambled eggs in the morning.

Guys, do not get a medium/large parrot unless you want another kid. These are social animals.

I got mucinex, chloraseptic, and more halls. The pharmacist also said to drink warm water with lemon juice and honey.

Don't worry. Many of us consider children to be STDs with an 18+ year infection period that is symptomatic the entire time. I can handle the sniffles. ;)

I woke up with strep throat this morning. Pisses me off so bad.

I get it once every single year and my tonsils swell up so much that my airways are blocked. Makes it tough to sleep.

The one thing I have going for me is I know exactly what works - Augmentin (not amoxicillin, not strong enough) and a one-dose steroid treatment coupled with ibuprofen every 4 hours and 2 cherry lozenges, one in each side of my mouth, every 2 hours or so to ease the pain and numb the throat. The cherry ones have more menthol in them so they are better.
