Thanks, just read both. It just continues the back and forth I've felt the whole time. He seems believable. However, there are still so many inconsistencies in his story now compared to what he testified to and what the evidence suggests. I don't think that Koenig was out to get him or was trying to deceive him about the story.

- this podcast probably shouldn't continue. Jay's life is now all messed up. And more importantly, I'm guessing that Hae's family is being put through the emotional ringer with old demons resurfacing and also the personal details of their daughter being publicized.
This is what bothers me about the show. In one of the episodes, Koenig mentioned asking Hae's family for interviews and they turned her down. That was the first time I actually saw it from their point of view. It must be horrible reliving the details, having it so widely publicized, AND questioning the guilt of the man who [they believed] killed their daughter.

As for the podcast continuing, there will be a second season, but according to Koenig herself, it will be a completely new story, from a new location, involving totally new people.

I did Serial in one stretch while driving from NC to PA. It was really well done but with no actual conclusion (obviously) it was bound to leave you with a rather empty feeling. I did turn on Jay early and then come back around. Thought they kind of glossed over Don but there wasn't much there anyway.

The funny thing is it goes a great length to highlight a problem that is less and less relevant anymore. I can pretty well reconstruct any day since 2006 or so thanks to the digital breadcrumbs I leave everywhere. Hell, since I have an android device I can go to my browser and look and see which cell towers I hit on any exact day since I started using Android.

Small Serial update. Adnan Syed is getting to present oral arguments at the MD Court of Special Appeals. It isn't a retrial or a appeal, just a determination as to whether he can move forward with trying to get a new trial or a full blown appeal. Interesting. My initial reaction was "Why, he did it?" which answers my own question that I wasn't sure of a few months ago. Before I wasn't sure but as it all sunk in I guess I think he did it.

Completely unrelated, but Howard Stern went on a long rant about podcasts. He basically said the only way to become a professional broadcaster is to start at a small radio station and work your way up. He says there is no tension in podcasting and that it's a medium for hacks. The guy is amazingly out of touch for the "King of All Media."

Yeah Stern saying that is basically like when Kodak said digital photography wouldn't catch on because people liked the crisp detail of film.

I think it's funnier when you consider he's at a pay service where he controls everything. The only tension he has is the stuff he creates for himself. He's basically running a live podcast. In fact, I almost never listen to it live, so it's basically a streaming podcast.

Like no appearances/comedy/other streams of income? Probably none because it's so easy to podcast that you'd be foolish to not have other sources of income. I think if you can get sponsors and people to use those sponsors in your name it's a pretty penny. Carolla for instance has what many call a podcast empire and has a ton of sponsors.

The big podcasts I listen to are extensions of bigger empires. Like Nerdist, or This Week in Tech. My favorite history podcast is a spin-off from HowStuffWorks.com.

Mike O'meara's podcast is, I believe, how he makes a living. He's a former DJ. I can't imagine he's raking it in, because his podcast isn't that popular, but he's been doing it for five years.
