Figured I'd put this here...does anyone else suffer from really bad lower back pain from laying in bed? Its gotten progressively worse, and I'm only 31, so obviously it's pretty discouraging at this age to already be dealing with this. The mattress is 5-6 years old, and I never sleep on my stomach because I know that's bad. I do work a desk job, and try to get up at least once an hour, take the dog for a walk, etc. But it's to the point now where the simple act of rolling over in bed is sheer agony.

Any quick/easy fixes that don't involve expensive medical bills are appreciated

standing with a tennis ball between your back and a wall gives you most of what a massage does, if you do it right.

I used to get pretty significant lower back pain, but don't remember how I fixed it. Well, try to keep good posture, especially when you're sitting. Don't put pressure on your lower back... a lot of people sit so badly it's almost like they're trying to lay in their chair. And the bed... not sure, but again watch your back and try to feel if you're putting unwanted pressure on it.

Oh, I used to do exercises.

Lay down flat on your back and put something like a pillow or a rolled up blanket under your aching lower back (it has to be high enough to stretch the area.... you will find the spot, and my god that feels SOOOOOOO good). Lay around for a while and relax it.

Also, lay down flat and put your legs up high (on some pillows or maybe you have a medicine ball or something) but, again, try to stretch the area. What you don't want to do, in general, is leaving those muscles as they are. You want to work and relax them.

Also, laying flat on your back and keeping your shoulders pinned down so they don't go up, twist your right leg, leading with the knee, over to the left side; then vice-versa. Basically, try to work on those muscles, stretching gently, holding, and relaxing.

I did that a few times a day and eventually my back pain went away. It's been a few years.

Are you sure it's the mattress? It could be an injury, or related to some other thing like bad posture. Even though you only experience the pain in bed doesn't mean it's the bed that's your problem.

I suggest physical therapy. Not crazy expensive, especially if you have insurance. I had a lower back injury late last year and after 10 or so therapy sessions, it was gone. I forget the technical term but they did what they called the "banana adjustment" on my back as well as stretches and strengthening exercises. I believe my lower sciatica was misaligned in proportion to my hips so they had to relocate it and strengthen it.

Get a Rumble Roller. I spend 8-10 minutes nearly every morning rolling my back and IT band. Then I do stretches and sun salutations.

The "plague" has descended upon my house. Started late last night with my daughter who is now home "celebrating" her 15th birthday.

Then I joined the fun around 4 this morning.

Watching wife and son because I'm sure they'll get it next.

Those who get it last get to look through a time machine at their future. It's horrible...

I fasted for roughly 24 hours before getting sick. It helped I think.

My 3 month old made it 8 days in daycare before getting sick. She now has pneumonia.

We have a nebulizer for my older daughter's asthma, but albuterol is not effective on infants, so it does not do any good. She's on a z-pack. Doc says to expect the cough to last for a good three weeks.

My three year old got the stomach bug first overnight on Jan 30th. Puked three times and was done.
I got it on Feb 1st and puked three times during the Super Bowl and felt better by the next morning.
My five year gold puked three times the night of Feb 3rd and then was done.

My eight month old and my wife both got colds on Feb 4th.

If it was norovirus it may be linked. I don't know if there is any scientific reasoning for it but my wife and I have both had norovirus twice and both times it has been followed by a cold about a week later. Maybe it's coincidence.

Blah, sorry to hear that Kraftster, I know how awful the lung stuff can be. Nothing worse than hearing the seal/barking cough all night long. That stuff is no joke

Best part about that is it may also work in reverse - a cheap, easy cure for obesity.

I've had a headache for about 10 days now. Not a raging headache, just a dull pain that clouds my ability to think. It is there the moment I wake up and follows me all day. I've just kind of been functioning half-speed. Also wake up every morning with a sore throat, but that could just be the insanely dry air here. Been sneezing but when I blow my nose it's perfectly clear. I've been adding about 1-2hrs of sleep per night but it hasn't helped. It's either some messed up allergies or I'm about to have a brain aneurism.

The funny thing is I finally committed to eating better and after just a few days my body feels much improved, but my head is just mush.

I have HBP when my weight is up (which it is) and that's kind of what this headache feels like, but it's never lasted this long. My wife was here last week and we ate a bunch of fun food and did bunch of fun stuff I don't normally do (skiing, yadda yadda, etc) so maybe I spiked it up and it's stuck there now or something.

Blah.
