They cover two character years in six seasons in BrBa. I don't think it will be a challenge for this show to do the same.

Honestly the thing that stinks as that you know there's plot armor because another show exists. In regards to people we know who have been on the show living and dying.
Yeah, I am definitely going to watch the show because Bob Odenkirk is a fantastic actor in his own right, but the plot armor aspect definitely sucks.

The cool thing about all of this is that even when they get to the BrBa years, they can focus on the other characters who would have been affected by Walt. Overall, it's going to be pretty interesting.

I have never watched even a minute of Breaking Bad -- simply because I want to start from the beginning and haven't had a chance, yet -- but I can say that I absolutely loved the first two episodes of Better Call Saul. The cinematography is great, and I love the way it's all put together... so many of the small things just made me chuckle.

I'll probably get slaughtered for this, but it reminds me a bit of Napoleon Dynamite in the way it's filmed and the music in the background. Of course, Napoleon Dynamite was nothing more than a low budget, college movie -- but my wife said the same thing. It's not like anything else on TV right now and I love that!

Yeah, I think if you want to watch BrBa you want to do it first.

Yes! What I'm really looking forward to is how they work around the drug/cartel angles that were so heavy in BrBA and get into some detail on all the other stuff... I mean, from one episode we already know that Saul used legit connections to launder drug money that all seemed random at the time, i.e. the nail salon. Possible connections seem limitless.

With this writing group... you know they started with an end in mind. There is probably already a plan to get to WW.

I would be willing to bet BCS ends with the first meeting between WW and Saul.

This might be complete internet nonsense, since I can't remember where I read it, but I think I recall reading somewhere that this show would continue to the post-Breaking Bad era and that it was supposed to be a redemption story, i.e. showing Jimmy McGill break bad to begin with to become Saul, and then breaking good somehow after he is disappeared to Omaha.

See I dunno...the minute Jesse starts to appear on the show, it suddenly becomes all about him and less about Bob Odenkirk/Saul Goodman, regardless of how small a role he plays.

I feel this way. I think he should be used sparingly in passing if the interest of the show starts to suffer. I think Saul alone is a good story driver just knowing what we know from BrBa. I personally only want to see characters in passing until they meet. Like Walt and family eating in the same place that Saul is eating.

I know that'd break focus of the show, but I think that'd only solidify the world Saul lives in.

The problem with bringing Jesse in is his age. BCS is six years earlier, so I'd assume Jesse is maybe 13, 14 at the time. So you can't possibly cast Aaron Paul for the role. And if you can't cast Aaron Paul for the role, well ...

Right, any person not Jesse kills the immersion of him on the show. I can't see him coming into the picture until the shows been on for 4-5 years...maybe.

so far so good for the most part. i'll keep watching.

but even if Tuco wasn't a crazy person, no one gets out of that desert alive. it was a proper vehicle to move the story along, but the unlikeliness of the whole scenario took me out of it. if you're going to have them live, it can't be a psychotic murderer that they survived.

After Mike, the BB character I'm most excited about having a cameo is Gus Fring. I don't care if Walt and/or Jesse ever appear on BCS; their story has been told, and gloriously so.

In passing, maybe (you know, one of those things where you see the character walk around in the background or something).

I'm pretty sure Saul drove past Walter's house in the first episode at some point.

Anyhow I agree with everyone. I can see Walter or Jesse towards the very end, in short, quick cameo's.. or in passing. Gus would be cool to see as a major player in BCS.

I bet after a few more episodes, this talk will die down completely, if it isn't already.

Do we assume we'll never jump back to present-day Saul? If there are cuts to Cinnabon Saul at all, we could get Jesse and/or Walt by way of present-day Saul flashbacks. It would be cool if the story was written in suchc a way as to allow for flashbacks to Saul scenes that we didn't get to see in BrBa. That would give us some Walt and Jesse fix.

I don't think that would happen for a while, though, so as to allow the show to develop its own merit, though they went to showing Mike and Tuco pretty quickly.

My guess is that we will see Walt and Jesse at some point, though it will be seldom / sparingly. Vince Gilligan and company said the show would be pre, during, and post Breaking Bad, so you would have to think we will see a lot of people from BB at some point. I think that the "during" BB pieces of BCS will the era least covered by the producers, and that they will be thrown in only when necessary.

I can see, however, Gus having a big role in this show because if you remember, Saul was the one that hooked Jesse and Walt up with him.

Glad to see somebody else heard this too. I couldn't remember if I was just making up hearing that it would go past the pre-BB era.

i bet there will be a jump back to present day, one way or another. they decided to stylize it with the black and white, which kind of implies an investment in teaching us to distinguish past from present.
