Worst Non-chain pizza you've had
Mine has to be the Vinnie Pie. Pools of grease, doughy, and really not good. When I say pools of grease I mean like someone took cups of oil and just poured it on. Not edible.

I can't disagree with you. When I was working in Forest Hills a couple friends raved about getting a Vinnie pie, so I had to try one. You a describe a Vinnie pie perfectly. I'd put Fiori's in the same boat.Pavel Bure wrote:Mine has to be the Vinnie Pie. Pools of grease, doughy, and really not good. You know my opinion on that.
In Latrobe, the town is divided between Jioio's and Falbo's. I worship Jioio's and can't stand Falbo's. Probably irrational.

Vinnie Pie has its charm and all, I was never a fan of Napolis in Monroeville. Always had a very burned flavor and a very bland sauce, my fav non chain is Mama Papinos in Irwin.

More than one piece of Jioio's is too much for me. Way too sweet of a sauce IMO.dodint wrote::lol:

*shrug*
A pizza that starts with a smearing of lard has to end up great, right?
That used to be the knock on Hotel Loyal. Sauce is too sweet. Haven't had a pizza from them in a long time though. Their subs were better.

Same. I get it every time I visit. My Mom lives about a mile from there.
Anyway, as for bad pizza, was never a fan of Pleasant Unity Pizza. A friend used to work there and swears it's awesome, but it reminds of of a frozen pizza you bake in the oven or even the pizza you'd get at the skating rink. Blech.

I don't know about the worst, but I'd eat Giovanni's Crab Trap pizza every day if I could afford it

Jioios is good every now and again as a change of pace. Couldn't eat it all the time though.

Eff yes. Bacon pie from there is holy yum. They also own a place called The Brick House in NHT. Same food at eat place. Good stuff.FreeCandy44 wrote:Lucci's in Penn Township or White OakPensFanInDC wrote:What's the best pizza in Pittsburgh?
I also like Beto's on Banksville road. Cook the pie and sauce with minimal cheese, put toppings on raw. Oh god the fresh grated mozzarella.

I grew up off of Nike Site road by the Irwin bank on Rt. 130. Now I reside in an Irwin mailing address a short ways from the turnpike entrance and from Rodney's restaurant.FreeCandy44 wrote:Lol...where are you in NHT? Born and raised in Irwin and currently Murrysville.

Re: Worst Non-chain pizza you've had
Mrs Tif is from Moline, Illinois. There's a place there called Happy Joe's. They make something called 'taco pizza', and it's every bit as awful as it sounds. She loves it, which makes me question a lot of things.
After that, I'd say the place my mom loved in Altoona. Forget the name, but it's Sicilian-style square cut and used to be right next to Sacred Heart.

Rodney's actually isn't bad these days. Oddly a little pricey for what it is. Yeah Hempfield Schools. Wife and I were looking around Penn Twp, Irwin, NHT area for a house. Found the one we wanted in a decent school district with low taxes. Really like the area for raising kids.FreeCandy44 wrote:Rodneys is awful....Hempfield guy ehh?
