what's Murphy's deal?

I read that he was mad because Lorne greenlit a sketch in the 90s that made fun of one of his movie bombs; is he still mad about this? Does Eddie know that he hasn't made a good movie in over 25 years?
Well, it's like Rock said....... Murphy made 'Trading Places' and '48 Hours' while on SNL, and hosted while he was still a cast member. That probably would influence how you perceive your own importance to the show.

Mr. Senator Franken was in the crowd? I was wondering why he didn't show up.
You could see him in the seats behind Bob Odenkirk. (Who has appeared in over 1 episode of 'Better Call Saul' )
Just checked the ol' recording. Yepper! Up in back. Well-spotted!

Meh, I think it traded on the zeitgeist of shark mania post-'Jaws'. Belushi as Hooper in (what I think was) the first sketch was pretty excellent, but the recurring bit only works in a world that's obsessed by shark paranoia. Ymmv.

Should add one more highlight: Wayne and Garth.... great overall, but the calling out the #1 thing about SNL being the crew was quality. Standing O, indeed.
I've worked in TV for 17 years and I heard a bunch of my co-workers rave about that shoutout more than any other part of the show. To get that kind of respect not just from the actors on stage but also from the studio audience might be the highlight of their careers. It just went to show that it takes an entire team to put together what entertains us and it's not just those that we see on the stage/screen.

entertainers and athletes...don't care what they're like in their personal life. do your job and you have my approval. has eddie murphy ever pretended to be a decent person...at least by normal standards? so if you put him in a position like the other night, you might want him to be gracious and charming...but it shouldn't really be expected.

I don't think anyone said Chevy was a dbag at the show. But he's a well renowned dbag off the screen.

It really came through strong in the those-who-have-passed montage. You could hear people in the crowd audibly responding to the image of a production coordinator, or propmaster, or makeup artist. I mean, over and above the clapping everyone was doing. You could tell there's real affection for the crew.

I enjoyed the opening with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake, Wayne's World, the Martin Short/Maya Rudolph segment, weekend update with Jane Curtin, and Celebrity Jeopardy. Super Bass-O-Matic seemed dated to me; the Californians was an awful waste of time... Why did Eddie Murphy even bother to show up? That was the last nail in the coffin of a dead career.

I hate to say this because I'm a big Sir Paul fan, but I've never heard his voice sound worse. Sore throat or age? His band was great though, as always. Surprisingly, I liked Miley Cyrus' version of "50 Ways." Paul Simon's "Still Crazy" was an excellent way to end the show.

I should have been expecting it, but after all these years Bill Murray's "Generalissimo Franco's still dead" line took me by surprise. I LOLed.

Same here, all I've heard is people saying he looked sickly. But his general d-baggery is well known.

Useless fun fact of the day: Chevy Chase has perfect pitch.

I heard Paul had a 3+ hour show in NYC Saturday night, im hoping that is why his voice sounded crappy. Miley did a good job on 50 Ways.

Oh, and what was the deal with Christopher Walken? He wasn't listed in the opening credits and the only thing he did was introduce Kanye West.

He WAS EVERYTHING in what was one of the greatest SNL sketches ever (cowbell) and they have him on for five seconds?

Maybe not the greatest idea for a song to do? The number he did required notes he obviously can't hit anymore, and shouldn't really be expected to.

That was fantastic, should have included that in my highlights list. I know he called them out by name prior to the number, but it took me almost the whole song before it dawned on me that the SNL Band was playing, not Simon's actual ensemble. Thought that was a nice tribute.

Dan Akroyd had a wonderful interview on Howard Stern this morning, talked a lot about behind the scenes stuff from SNL. I now admit that although I didn't care for the SNL 40 show, I was looking at it the wrong way. I suppose it did what it wanted to do, I was just hoping for something more intimate, but got that from Akroyd this morning on Sirius.

Is THSS available On-Demand? I only listen to news shows on Sirius anymore, but I'd like to check out that interview.

If you are talking about the sirius internet shows on demand, yes, all his shows appear on there usually by the next day.

not sure if its on there still, but look for the Martin Short interview as well, it was really good.

Stern will play that interview from Thursday to Sunday practically on a loop. Should be pretty easy to catch.

So I'm guessing that Myers and Carvey doing their Lorne impressions means they've stopped feuding over Myers stealing it?

They buried the hatchet (if it ever really existed) a couple years ago for a WW reunion at the Academy Of Motion Picture Arts And Sciences. Also cleared the air with Penelope Spheeris.

One of my good friends is a creative type higher up at Paramount Home Video, but in the past she worked at New Line. She said that unquestionably the worst person she ever had to deal with was Mike Myers. Verbally abusive and just downright mean. Conversely, she said Beyoncé was super sweet, almost embarrassed at times.
