I'd have an easier time explaining cold fusion.

Walken to me made the cowbell sketch. And it was funny because back then Ferrall was still in his early days of wearing goofy outfits and screaming. Problem is 10 years later that's still all he's got in the holster.

Talk about leading me down the rabbit hole of "people you didn't know were SNL cast members"... thanks a lot.

I think they were being kind by putting EVH at 70.tifosi77 wrote:This is a publication that once ranked the greatest rock guitar players and put Eddie Van Halen at #70 (four spots below Vernon Reid, and eight spots behind something called 'Zoot Horn Rollo')Sam's Drunk Dog wrote:My guess is that Rolling Stone was trying to avoid complete irrelevance by making a BS list that would get people talking about Rolling Stone.
As for Zoot Horn Rollo, anyone with knowledge of rock history and his playing in Captains Beefheart's Magic Band would understand him being on that list.

So apparently Eddie Murphy was originally slated to play Bill Cosby on Celeb Jeopardy but turned it down.

Sandler can act when he's not in charge of the movie.

Re: SNL 40th Aniv Show
I understand that some of the people from SNL can act, but when looking for phenomenal actors, SNL is not the first place I'm going to go looking. That's all I was trying to say.

Re: SNL 40th Aniv Show
Did most of the SNL cast members come from backgrounds/educations that would gear them to transitioning from sketch comedy to award-winning acting roles? I'm asking honestly because I'm not sure. I think most of the people who came through SNL casts arrived directly through standup comedy, other sketch comedy outfits, or they were writers who eventually transitioned over to sketch comedy parts.count2infinity wrote:Name one SNL actor that would be considered a "great" award winning actor...pittsports87 wrote:Will Ferrell is a horrible actor.
Take someone like Robin Williams. Williams made his name within the industry first as a standup comedian in the early-mid 1970s before the role on Mork & Mindy forced him into the mainstream. Prior to that, though, he was a good enough actor to attend Julliard on a scholarship and gain acceptance as a freshman into their Advanced Program. In fact, he was so good at Julliard that in his junior year, John Houseman (Director of Julliard's Drama Division) told Williams to drop out because there was nothing left for him to learn there.
This isn't to diminish talents of the SNL cast members or their backgrounds in the slightest...I just don't know that many of them had the natural acting chops that translate to the types of roles that eventually win major awards.

Re: SNL 40th Aniv Show
That's pretty much exactly what I'm trying to say. Calling someone who is a comedian a horrible actor doesn't seem quite fair. Most SNL cast come through comedy clubs and things like that. It's apples and oranges really.Stoosh wrote:Did most of the SNL cast members come from backgrounds/educations that would gear them to transitioning from sketch comedy to award-winning acting roles? Yeah, that's definitely the case. Many SNL people came from Second City or stand up.
The book Live From New York is good and takes a look at where people came from.

Did any SNL cast member win an individual Oscar, Golden Globe or Emmy?
