Re: Restaurant Recommendations?
The commoner in the new Kimpton hotel downtown was quite delicious. I had braised lamb shank which was very impressive. It's sort of like an Irish pub with some of their cuisine. Deviled eggs eggs were dealt good too. Impressive beer list. Cocktails were good not great.

Re: Restaurant Recommendations?
Anyone try anything good over the weekend?
My valentine took us to Spoon. Most of my fine dining experiences have been ordering steak, but I decided to try something different.
It was a three course prix fixe. The appetizer I got was a croute en pate. The ingrdients sounded good. No idea how it was made, but I really liked it. It had a bit of foie gras, but I didn't care for it. You could tell it was just fatty, like eating butter.
My entre was lamb taglietelle. I've wanted to try lamb for a long time and I really liked it. Someone who likes olives (which I don't really care for) would have loved it. But the flavors all were great.
Desert was carrot cake.
The only thing I didn't care for was uni. I had no clue what it was - my date got a seafood appetizer. Shrimp was good, mussels good, tuna good. Then there was the creamy looking stuff on the tuna. I thought my girlfriend had tried it and gave me the all clear. Well, it tasted roughly what the bucket of fish you buy at sea world to feed the sea lions smells like. Just foul salty sea and fishy smelling. Turns out uni is sea urchin. Yuck.

Specifically, it's sea urchin gonads, either from a male or female. I doubt that fact improves your impression of the stuff.pittsoccer33 wrote:Turns out uni is sea urchin. Yuck.

Can't find a pic of Ruxin choking down uni, but this'll do.

Wife made reservations for August Henry's tomorrow when her and my sister go to see Phantom of the Opera. She was wondering if it was any good.

I've never eaten there but its relatively nice inside. I've ordered drinks at the bar waiting for a table at Sienna Mercato a few times.
I'd imagine its pub grub, but I don't know for sure.

If I were to think of a comparable, it would probably be something like Bettis' grill. The foods not terrible, but it's expensive and you're better off sticking to comfort foods. Burger or sandwich.

Re: Restaurant Recommendations?
I'm actually going to see Phantom on Thursday afternoon, and we've been debating where to eat afterward. We both love Sienna Mercato/Emporio, so thats definitely an option, but its hard to pick because there are so many places around there I'd like to try (like Butcher and Rye).

Re: Restaurant Recommendations?
Finally found the thread...
Went to Green Forest last week with a bunch of friends. I don't think I can say I've 1) ever eaten that much food in 1 sitting, and 2) eaten steak, chicken, turkey, lamb, and bacon that tasted that good.

I particularly enjoyed the chimichurri steak and the grilled bacon wrapped in bacon.

Although I will say that the last time I was there, the meats were somewhat dry.
I'm still going back, though.

Really the resort restaurants is about the best you'll find. Here is a place that opened recently, no idea if it's any good, but could give it a shot: http://thetwistedtrout.com/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;Letang Is The Truth wrote:is there anywhere in bedford worthwhile eating? making an impromptu trip this weekend but having trouble getting reservations at one of the resort restaurnts
They're about 2 miles north of the turnpike interchange on Route 220 (make a left getting off the turnpike).

Re: Restaurant Recommendations?
Used to live there. It's, not a good place... Do not eat at Ed's Steakhouse. Jean Bonnet tavern, outside of town on 30 a few miles back towards pittsburgh isn't bad. Good beer on tap, not bad tavern type food. They do get surprisingly good seafood, as the owner drives to Baltimore 3x a week to get it.Letang Is The Truth wrote:is there anywhere in bedford worthwhile eating? making an impromptu trip this weekend but having trouble getting reservations at one of the resort restaurnts

Re: Restaurant Recommendations?
I'd suggest bottled beer at the Jean Bonnet. They rarely clean their lines and the beer sometimes tastes moldy. Second on the do not go to Ed's. I worked there for about 5 or 6 years. It's not good.OutofFoil wrote:Used to live there. It's, not a good place... Do not eat at Ed's Steakhouse. Jean Bonnet tavern, outside of town on 30 a few miles back towards pittsburgh isn't bad. You can always just eat at the bar in the tavern and hope someone cancels the their reservation at the steak house.
