Probably so. I'm just thinking the dominoes will start falling fairly quickly.

I think it would be more attractive to states with budget issues. Have to think you can tax the that stuff a whole lot and make increase revenues.

I read something like the link below a while back that Colorado raised too much money via taxing weed and now are returning money to the citizens of Colorado?

As of 12:01 this morning, possession is now legal in DC.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2015/02/2 ... 53554.html
Adults 21 and over may now legally use marijuana, possess up to two ounces and grow up to six marijuana plants in their homes for personal use. Marijuana sales remain illegal, but the District Council is considering a bill that would regulate and tax marijuana sales, similar to laws in Colorado and Washington state.
Also Jamaica's Parliament voted Tuesday night to decriminalize possession of up to 2 ounces, and allow the Rastafaris to freely use for sacramental purposes.

A threat from congressmen with authority over the District seemed only to bolster the new D.C. mayor’s resolve. Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-Utah), chairman of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, warned Bowser (D) to halt legalization or face “very severe consequences,” he told The Washington Post. “You can go to prison for this. We’re not playing a little game here.”

But Bowser made clear that she is keenly aware of her authority and intends to use it.

“I am the duly elected mayor of the District of Columbia,” she said upon taking the stage at a mid-afternoon news conference, during which she announced that the city would “implement and enforce” the law as passed by voters.

snip

Rep. Andy Harris (R-Md.), who earlier sought to block the city from spending money to implement the ballot initiative, said Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. “should prosecute people in the District who participate in this.” That seemed highly unlikely in an administration that has repeatedly signaled that it will let states conduct their own marijuana experiments.
I'm sure Holder will be right on that.

I love seeing the old guard mashing their teeth over this.

Change is coming. Deal with it.

it will be legal federally before it's legal in many southern states. they're still very, very backwards.

DC is interesting. it's legal to own but not sell...i wonder if this means people can go on craigslist or whatever to find hookups. i know people already do this, but will it be totally transparent now?

andy harris and people of his ilk don't make any sense. they act against the majority of the people they represent. and there's no way they could actually be morally against it, if they have half a brain. i don't know what the motive is, aside from stubbornness

i actually think police unions may be the biggest issue. with asset forfeitures, overtime manipulation and federal kickbacks for drug arrests, they have a s*** ton to lose here. this is most true at the state level. federally, yes - there are lobbyists and the DEA's bloated budget, but i think stasis is to blame. no one wants to be a part of any change that carries any risk.

Back when CA first legalized medical MJ, Bill Maher quipped about the disconnect between it being legal to possess but illegal to obtain.

Does this maybe mean it's legal to grow your own stash?

you can now grow 6 plants (3 mature) in your home in DC. you can possess an ounce of product (which is significantly less than what 3 mature plants gets you, i think...don't know how that works).

you can give an ounce away to any adult over 21...which is where things get interesting. i'm wondering if there's any wiggle room for a business to give away weed for free as an incentive to use their other products.

each plant, if grown correctly, should yield roughly an ounce when mature in an indoor grow room. There are methods to increase yield but a 4 (mature) plant grow room should produce 1/4 lb of crop. If you can have 6 plants but only 3 mature you can stagger the yield so that you are harvesting 3 plants in your autumn room just as the 3 plants in your summer room are ready to be moved. Basically that should be an endless supply unless you're a brain dead stoner. In which case you probably don't have the motivation or will power to grow that way.

based on my very limited exposure to pot...i'd estimate an ounce would last me over a year. it's an underrated part of this, that states are using an ounce as the standard limit for possession. even for a standard stoner, that is a bunch of weed.

Yeah that is a lot. An ounce would last me 6 months at least and that would be with heavier than normal recreational use. If I ever live somewhere that it is legal to grow I will probably do it.

So could we drive down to Washington and buy or do you have to prove you live there???

Back in the day a 1/4 oz lasted me 2 weeks. Now that was me smioking every day and sharring with my friends. So a .oz would last me 2 months. If i were to start up again i would think using it responcablly a oz would last me a year.

I quit once i had kids, i hated when friends had stoner dads (the dads who didn't hide it from their kids that they smoked.) I couldn't imagine taking care of my kids while stoned.
