They're now reporting that he just has a few cuts and scrapes, and he was transported to the hospital in fair to moderate condition (which was probably only that level because of his age).

Also, bang up job setting the aircraft down on a golf course. Lots of wide open space, and he was more likely to find a doctor on the links than if he had crashed into Cedars-Sinai.

Yeah I assumed that he chose the golf course to land at after he realized he needed to make an emergency landing.

If he had an inflatable raft onboard he probably would have walked away uninjured.

I read online he reported engine failure just before the crash.

He's an experienced plane and helicopter pilot. He's actually helped local authorities in helicopter searches.
