I just googled this...if I am going to like a sour, seems that this would be the one.Kraftster wrote:Rodenbach Caractere Rouge. This is easy to say with how it's regarded, but this is easily one of the best things I've ever had the pleasure of experiencing. Might be the best beer I've ever had.

Augustijn Grand Cru. Belgian Strong Pale Ale. Quite good. Not normally in my wheelhouse, but I'm enjoying.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
This is a touch on the sweet side, but it is so perfectly balanced that I hate to criticize anything. I'm a sucker for raspberries, and smelling this thing out of a tulip/snifter is like sticking your head in a bag of fresh red raspberries. There's a slight balsamic cranberry vinaigrette smell in there. It's perfect carb and body for Flemish red. Perfect dry finish, only wish for the slightest bit more sourness. There's soke vanilla and oak qualities lurking in there and a nice hay funkiness that gives it a slight saison character.Kraftster wrote:Rodenbach Caractere Rouge. I worry it's a tad too sweet as a first Flemish red, but it's a heck of an achievement. As close to perfect for a style as I've ever had.

Also had Arcadia Ales Hopmouth. Meh it was okay. Wish I'd seen it was bottled last May when I purchased it.

No, sir. Was hoping to take a drive out to Vintage Estates when the weather gets nice to look for that and Prairie Artisinal and by some miracle Boulevard Saison Brett. Isn't Side Project the Praire guy's...side project? It's one of this up-and-coming missouriish ones.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I picked up three things , which I've never had (or even seen) before:
Anderson Valley Gose Ale
The Bruery Saison Rue
Professor Fritz Briem 1809 Berliner Weisse
Plus I have a bomber of a local imperial coffee stout.
If I'm not careful, I'll be completely in the bag by tonight's puck drop. `

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
From sometime last month...
According to the (learned) "beer dude" at my liquor/wine/bottle shop, the Creature Comforts Berliner Weisse is still draft only, but it should be available soonish; not sure if bottle or cans.letsgoalpens wrote:It is awesome. I'm going to have to find the Berliner Weisse from Creature Comforts.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
This might not seem appetizing, but I'd say something like a Berliner Weisse and a saison have a baby, and that baby meets the beer of it's dreams who happens to have been born to an American wild ale and a shandy. Then those two have a baby and sprinkle some salt in it. Or something.eddysnake wrote:Bruery rue is delicious.

Interested what you think of the gose. I had it awhile ago and wasn't crazy about it, but think it was the style.columbia wrote:I picked up three things , which I've never had (or even seen) before:

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
Side project is perennial's head brewer's sour program. The side project stuff is all brewery only and difficult to get.
In pittsburgh drai laag just released their sours (red/blue/black briar) and koelschip. East end also released brett hop and two wine barreled beers. Nothing revolutionary but decent.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I saw anderson valley's winter solstice on super discount today at the distributor. I also saw the Gose, but it was too expensive for me to rationalize picking up that style of beer.

I saw this for $19.99 today, so that gives you an idea of the punitive nature of the PA laws.Kraftster wrote:Slap, I thought it'd be gone, but I just saw a few at Robinson Giant Eagle tonight. $29.99 a pop.

Re: GIVE ME YOUR BEER SUGGESTIONS!!
I have tried the raspberry and blackberry. They're good for sure. I believe the brewery is selling 22's but they distributed the red and black briar in 12 ounce bottles. For a local to craft a sour of this quality is nothing short of amazing.canaan wrote:Have you tried the draai laag sours yet?UVM2003 wrote:Side project is perennial's head brewer's sour program. The koelschip is entirely spontaneously fermented with native yeasts/bugs (in millvale I guess) and is also in 12 oz bottles. I have it in the fridge but haven't tried.
At the brewery all 4 run about 39 bucks.
