Well, he's a demagogue, so that (intentionally) rules out any prospect of subtlety.tifosi77 wrote:But I do have questions about his general savvy; it's one thing to know your audience and believe your own message, it's something else entirely to be as politically naive as he is. He just hasn't found his Cheney yet.

Totally disagree, he's very bright and that makes him somewhat scarey, not that he has a snowball's chance in winning anything.tifosi77 wrote:I wouldn't describe him at all as smart. The law has been changed so many times over the years, but I think the way it stands now there is no legitimate challenge to his eligibility. Which leaves unanswered the question of his suitability.Factorial wrote:Born in Canada. I like Senator Cruz, but I don't think I would like President Cruz. Not a fan of Senators becoming President anyways, they rarely ever accomplish anything in their lives except win elections.

I don't understand what segment of the party Cruz appeals to. Maybe I just don't know enough Republicans or conservatives. I can fully grasp who Rand Paul, CC, Jeb and Huckster appeal to...but have no idea who would support Cruz.

Re: Political talk
i think there's a trend of states taking this into their own hands, rather than letting the laws get crafted by the civilians creating ballot initiatives. massachusetts is working on a legalization law right now for that reason. control the retail regulations. craft the tax allotment to your liking. maybe tighten the grip with the amount you can possess. certain states like nevada, arizona, mass, vermont...they're going to be legal one way or another in 2016. might as well steer into the crash.count2infinity wrote:LOOK OUT EISMANN! Would anyone mind summarizing how it becomes a ballot measure?shmenguin wrote:i think there's a trend of states taking this into their own hands, rather than letting the laws get crafted by the civilians creating ballot initiatives. massachusetts is working on a legalization law right now for that reason. control the retail regulations. craft the tax allotment to your liking. maybe tighten the grip with the amount you can possess. certain states like nevada, arizona, mass, vermont...they're going to be legal one way or another in 2016. might as well steer into the crash.count2infinity wrote:LOOK OUT EISMANN! Re: Political talk
i agree... it's a win-win right now for some states. They get to control the way they want to do it rather than let the public do it, and then they get to campaign that they helped do something that should have been done long ago to help the state raise funds.

So there would be state pot stores it sounds like.Under the proposal, adults 21 or older would be allowed to grow up to six cannabis plants (3 flowering) and possess any amount of marijuana. Sen. Leach said there would not be possession limits imposed because marijuana would be legal — and adults are not limited to how much alcohol they can possess at any time, although there are limits to how much can be purchased in a single transaction. Adults would be able to transfer up to one ounce of marijuana to another adult, as long as no money was exchanged.
snip
According to Leach’s proposal, the state’s Liquor Control Board would oversee the pricing of retail marijuana, which would be required to be “proportional with prices paid by the board to its suppliers and reflect any advantage obtained through volume purchases.” Marijuana cultivation facilities would be licensed by the state to private growers and farmers.

Personal use debate aside, i don't like arcanely restricting medical research and use.
I wonder if this will turn out nationally like casinos. The world didn't end with wider spread legalized gambling, which is done mostly by the same demographics no matter where you go, and the market will ultimately right size it. Bad stuff will still happen, maybe at a higher rate, maybe not, but that ultimately would find its level, too.

Re: Political talk
yeah, I wouldn't expect them to privatize marijuana.... they'd definitely have state stores if it were done.

Re: Political talk
hippies hate the idea of government-run growers/sellers, but i have no problem with it...aside from my name getting put into a database. it's naive to think there isn't SOME public health concern with a free market for marijuana. without tight regulations, a year's supply would only cost a few bucks. at this point, we can't have that, if only because it's a colossal unknown. if you're dead set on having a cheap, unlimited amount, you can grow your own. but right now, we can't make it super super easy to access as much as you want at a minuscule cost.

That's very much how I feel about Elizabeth Warren. She's far too single-issue focused to be president, but I think there needs to be a voice like hers somewhere in a position of authority within government.DelPen wrote:I like Senator Cruz, but I don't think I would like President Cruz.
I'm not sure what role Ted Cruz serves other than John Boehner's stomach ulcer, but you get the idea.

...and also, that bill isn't passing. no chance. it's just a token effort to remind people that the issue is there.
