RIP MattMatthew Wuest poured his heart into his work.
The former Metro Halifax sports reporter and CapGeek founder was always the one writing the stories, often shying away from having stories written about him.
Wuest died during the early morning hours Thursday at Victoria General Hospital in Halifax, wife Melanie Patten by his side, following a two-and-a-half year battle with colon cancer.

Re: CapGeek founder died of cancer
Given the nature of the closing, it was clear that something was very wrong.
RIP. I appreciated his fine work.

Re: CapGeek founder dies of cancer
That sucks. So did he take it down because he didn't trust anyone else to run it properly? Its pretty amazing how well that site worked considering the constant flux of players.

Really unfortunate, he was a terrific contributor to the sport. A former HF writer as well. RIP.

Re: CapGeek founder dies of cancer
Very sad, indeed. Groundbreaking and revolutionary get thrown around a lot, but what he did with CapGeek was the very definition of those terms. Did I read Bettman said "fans aren't interesting in the cap" or something similar to that? If so, he's out of touch with the fans.
How does one screen for colon cancer? I know after 50, colonoscopies should be annual or every few years, but he was in his mid-30s.

Re: CapGeek founder dies of cancer
Unless cap geek was around a lot longer than i realized, it wasnt revolutionary or groundbreaking, it just perfected what others were trying to do.

I still don't get why he just packed up shop and didn't let someone else continue with the website.

Re: CapGeek founder dies of cancer
It is possible that he left that for his family to handle - sell off, or whatever. I suspect they wouldn't want such a distraction during his last days, as it appear they were in when he shut down the site.Crankshaft wrote:I still don't get why he just packed up shop and didn't let someone else continue with the website.

According to James Mirtle, he turned down several offers from people wanting to buy the site.Crankshaft wrote:I still don't get why he just packed up shop and didn't let someone else continue with the website.

Re: CapGeek founder dies of cancer
Strange indeed. I'm sure those left behind could've used the proceeds from a sale. I guess he maybe viewed the site as his "legacy"? And he felt a sale to others would ttarnish that? Who knows.

RIP Matthew. You did great work on capgeek, had a family, and were much too young for this to happen to you. Godspeed.
