It looks like there will be 2 cities in the next expansion of the NHL, Quebec and Las Vegas. And there are currently 16 teams in the Eastern Conference and 14 in the Western Conference, so it seems like the thing to do is even out the numbers in the Western Conference to 16. Obviously Las Vegas would be placed in the West. But what about Quebec? They really belong in the East. So which franchise would go West from the East? Detroit? Columbus? Some other franchise? Inquiring minds want to know.

Re: Moving West
c) no one
It won't be Detroit or Columbus, since they just moved them both to the East. Detroit never should have been moved in the first place (having the furthest west longitude of any eastern conference team). Since the league decided to bow down to Ilitch's whining and give him what he wanted to cause the current conference disparity, there is no reason to believe they will not continue to do so after expansion and have 2 more teams in the East versus the West.

Re: Moving West
from what I read so far and heard from Bettman is that no current team in the East will move to the Western conference. If Quebec does make it as in this round of expansion they would have to agree to move to play in the Central. Quebecor wants a franchise so bad that they would agree to this.
It sounds like we won't have to worry about this as only Las Vegas will get a team. With the Canadian dollar being so weak it hurts Quebecor to come up with more money. Its been said in many circles that Quebec would be smart to try and buy Carolina and move them to Quebec, that solves alignment issues and gives them a much better stable of talent and would cost a lot less. A new franchise doesn't want to start behind the 8 ball. But the NHL doesn't want to move any team so its a tough sell.
