Did they replace the Starter star logo with the STARTER WRITTEN logo beside the NHL patch in 1997-1998?
Some research of game worn jerseys auctioned (no, not on eBay!) tells me the following:
- 1996-97: Oens wore the "S*" logo (http://www.gamewornauctions.net/product ... 9-102.html)
- 1997-98: Pens wore the "S*" logo (http://www.gamewornauctions.net/product ... 5-154.html, http://www.gamewornauctions.net/product ... 9-154.html).
- 1997-98: Pens also wore the "STARTER" logo (http://www.gamewornauctions.net/product ... 5-120.html, http://spartantiques.weebly.com/nhl-ny- ... nipeg.html)
- 1998-99: Pens wore the "STARTER" logo (http://www.gamewornauctions.net/product ... 5-133.html)

If I had to guess - and I do - I'd guess that the team's Set 1 jerseys featured the "S*" logo while their Set 2 jerseys had the logo change the the "STARTER" logo. Either than or the line of demarcation was the regular season vs. playoffs. But the transition definitely occurred sometime during the 1997-98 season.
Many thanks for the follow up :-)

I later saw an Morozov game worn from 1997-1998 with the STAR logo, so I assumed it must have been used after Lemieux retired as well - as Morozov did not play for the Pens in 1996-1997.

Did someone pay 1549$ for a Jaromir Jagr retail authentic, thinking it was a game worn jersey?

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201541159011" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

If I am not mistaken, that jersey is not a team issue, but a retail authentic being "claimed" as a game worn jersey.

There is no CENTER ICE tagging inside the collar, instead it looks as just the retail authentics.

Or am I wrong about this?

I'm seeing some tagging differences with 97-98 gamers online. This Morozov gamer looks like it's tagged identically: http://www.gamewornauctions.net/product ... 9-154.html.

usually these guys Ebay prices are ridiculous but they're clearly trying to unload some stuff before the end of the season. good deals if you're looking for Winter Classic or Vegas Gold gear:

Good lord. Starter jerseys are puzzling me.

So we have team issued jerseys from the 1997-1998 season that look IDENTICAL to Retail authentics?

How am I supposed to know if its a retail authentic with an attached fight strap or a team issue jersey then? :scared:
----
Does some of the STAR LOGO retail authentics made in haiti have re-inforced elbows?

Does some of the STAR LOGO retail authentics not made in haiti have re-inforced elbows?

I am amazed at how tiny some of the skates are that the pros use. 7.5? Wow. Then there is Greiss with a 12.

All good questions. It wasn't until relatively recently that team-issued jerseys and retail authentics were different. If I'm not mistaken, when teams wore Edge 1.0's, the Edge 1.0's that you could get in stores were identical. That changed when the Indo-Edge became the "retail authentic" and the Edge 2.0 became the team-issues. However, you can still get Edge 2.0's that were never team-issued. There are slight neck-tagging differences between current gamers (http://www.jjdistributing.biz/uploads/1 ... 7_orig.jpg) and non-team issued Edge 2.0's (http://jeffshly.weebly.com/uploads/4/7/ ... 2_orig.jpg), but these current gamers might come with the same tags, which are removed once in the team's possession. Of course, current gamers/team-issues have the tags inside the rear hem (http://www.jjdistributing.biz/uploads/1 ... 3_orig.jpg) with serial numbers.

If you're looking to earlier gamers/team-issues, your best bet is to make sure you're buying from someone who's very reputable. Online resources are huge, as you can compare pictures of tags from game-worn jerseys pictures on various auction sites, like meigray.com, jjdistributing.biz, or gamewornauctions.net. On my site (http://jeffshly.weebly.com/), though I don't have a ton of jerseys, I've tried to show as much as I can regarding tagging and patchwork to serve as reference points for my fellow collectors.

Here is a fake I bought during the 2009 stanley cup run - hopefully it will bring good luck for game 6 (it worked in 2009)

I found it in a box today, thought I had got rid of it.

ATTENTION: Notice that the chinese people have made the outside of the lettering in SHINY/BRIGHT GOLD and not the BEIGE/VEGAS GOLD the Pens use.

A few months back I bought 2 7287 2.0 3RD jerseys for 199$ apiece from House O Hockey.

Any idea why they sold them that cheap? With no Indo Edge available, I dont get it?

Guys. The jerseys I am most after but know least about is the 1990-1992 cup jerseys. Obviously they are very hard to come by.

A LEMIEUX size 48 - new with tags sold on ebay 1 month ago for 462$ - and surely that was NOT the winning bidders MAXIMUM BID.

AUTHENTIC PITTSBURGH PENGUINS 1992 ICE HOCKEY JERSEY CCM LEMIEUX SIZE 48

http://www.ebay.com/itm/AUTHENTIC-PITTS ... 1920120647" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I thought it looks legit. Am I correct about that?
---
Seeing what it sold for, can I expect to have to bid like 600$ for such a jersey to have a chance of winning the bidding?

Its a lot of money. But pretty much the only thing I am lacking in my collection.
---

I have 2 Jagr White jerseys from 1990-1992, and 1 Jagr black jersey 1990-1992.

And I have 2 Lemieux White jerseys from 1990-1992.

And I have one BLANK White jersey from 1990-1992.

Is the BLACK one the hardest to come by? I am looking to get one blank and one Lemieux to complete the collection sort to speak.

Jersey is legit, but patches on the shoulders are not. Can't tell on my phone about the 75th patch.

Price is hard to say. They can go from anywhere between 300-800. Total crap shoot.

You are a patch guy, arent you? I know nothing about patches, cant tell the difference, lol.

This is a damn fine looking jersey :fist:

Did the jersey have a different player name before?

Did you not have a black size 44 Lemieux earlier as well?

Picked up Dumoulin Home set #2 2016 jersey from J&J. Very please with the purchase. Includes the "last home game in Vegas Gold" patch sewn inside the hem. I laughed when I opened the fight strap and found Dana's signature.

Oh, you have no idea. L-O-V-E patches lol.

I have a bunch actually that aren't even shown in my account yet, but I'm working on putting them in. The Jagr that you see in there is actually a Mario now, so yes. I'll let you know when I get all my photos put in. Hopefully soon. :thumb:

New to the forum and love this thread. I recently bought a blank Pens Edge 2.0 alternate home jersey. Has anyone gotten authentic lettering done at Pro Knitwear? I'm trying to decide between using them vs. House O' Hockey.

I'm thinking of getting an edge 2.0 jersey but not sure what size to get. I'm 5'9", 200, athletic/muscular build. I was thinking of getting a size 52 but not sure. I have an XL CCM jersey that fits ok but a little roomy. Can anyone help with their experience?

My dog chewed up my 2009 Stanley Cup hat (the grey one) the second day it came in the mail. It's wearable, but has always been uncomfortable since it's filled with those little plastic threads. I've been begging for another Cup just so I can retire it and get a new one.

I'm 5'11, 175. 40 chest and wear 34 length dress shirts. I went with a size 50 and it fits me pretty well. Note that the sleeves are really wide on the 2.0. I bought through Jersey Baron (email him and transact through PayPal. he will give you a better deal).

Is this a decent deal for this signed Jagr jersey? Are logos to spec for the '92 season? Since I couldn't get game 5 tix, I'm thinking of investing in this instead.

No, the patches are reproductions.

Price is generally in the zone. Depends on how much you value autographs. I don't care about them at all, so for me personally the price is way too high for something I'd want to remove from the jersey anyways. Like I told Lesky up above, the price for that jersey model ranges wildly, but it's roughly where it should be based on past sales I've seen for that size.
