So if I decide to not keep this Jagr jersey. What do you think is a fair price to sell it for?
If you blurryhaze312 or jeffshly owned and were to sell it, what would be your asking price?
Always happy to talk Pens jersey, Lesky! Not a problem at all!
I'm afraid to ask what you paid for the jersey, but if this was sold to you as being team-issued, it was definitely misrepresented. The numbers on this jersey are bad, but the nameplate is REALLY bad. It's autographed by Jagr, though, so I can understand wanting to keep it as a Jagr jersey. Assuming that autograph is real - and I have no reason to believe it's not - I'd guess the jersey to be in the $400 range. I'd agree with haze in that a blank of that same era is worth more than one that was customized this far away from team specs, but it is autographed by a future Hall of Famer. If this were my jersey, I'd look very hard into stripping the jersey of its numbers and letters and replacing it with ones matching team specs. The person who customized for the Penguins long ago no longer does them, but there are options. Given that there's a "stripping" involved, my first call would be to Keener Jerseys in Winnipeg, Canada. They can match this lettering exactly, and if anyone is going to know how to strip it cleanly, it'll be them. This might cost you $200, but you could easily sell an autographed Jagr jersey lettered to team specs for upwards of $1000.
Remember, in 1990-91 (Jagr's rookie season), they began the season with the previous year's jerseys, so Jagr actually played in jersey bearing the 1990 All Star Game patch on the left shoulder (see his O-Pee-Chee rookie card). They also won the Stanley Cup that year. You could add either patch (but not both!) to the jersey to make it a Jagr rookie jersey. The 1992 Finals (0r NHL 75th anniversary), Penguins 25th anniversary, and Badger Bob memorial patches can be added to make this a 1991-92 jersey, though haze can tell you those patches (especially the "Badger" patch) are really hard to find.
Either way, I know you're a huge Jagr fan. Make it your own, wear it proudly, and sell off one of your other ones!
