Actually Zadina was probably only going to a bottom feeder where he'll get lots of top 6 and power play time. That wasn't going to happen here.lemieuxReturns wrote:This deal and more to come are why waiting to spend your available cap cash is the prudent move.

Makes the most sense. If they send Vanecek the other way that clears enough cap space and they have their 1st rounder this year to send too. That’s a decent start and they have enough quality prospects to make it happen.ville5 wrote:Weekes said on NHL Tonight that there's mutual interest between the NJ Devils and Hellebuyck. :scared:ville5 wrote:Kevin Weekes

Brendan Lemieux to the Hurricanes for 800k.

K'Andre Miller jus signed 2 year bridge deal at a discount. I really wish teams utilized the offer sheet for RFA's more. Instead of worrying about roughing up future relationships. It would make for a much more active off-season instead of the league left to sign a bunch of older UFA's...

Would have loved to see him here instead of Carter even at $1.1 million. Carter is really screwing things up a lot more than Granlund because at least he can still skate for the entire game.ville5 wrote:Sundqvist with the Blues 1 year, $775k. That's a good deal.

I think most don’t because the deals will almost always be matched so they don’t want to risk making other GM’s mad for failed attempts.KG wrote:K'Andre Miller jus signed 2 year bridge deal at a discount. They need to revise the compensation to the point where a team thinks it’s worth giving up assets in draft picks to where teams will actually want the compensation more than the player. There should also be something that at the end of an offer sheet contract the player is a UFA depending how long the term and it’s not coming off their entry level contact.
I also think offer sheeting is much harder now because you need your own draft picks. The way team move them so much it’s hard to make offers and players wouldn’t be enticed to sign offers from teams that were seller and accumulating picks.
The system needs some tweaking but overall most of the owners probably like the way it is so I doubt it will change.

Re: 2023 Non-Penguins Related Thread
This was talked about a few days ago on Twitter, while I was on a brief hiatus, but, it sounds like the results of the investigation into Hockey Canada sex scandal were going to be released very soon. This might be a reason why nobody is taking a chance on signing Max Comtois...because he is potentially going to be named as one of the involved. There are 8 players from the team that have refused comment.
They are: Alex Formenton, Sam Steel, Max Comtois, Tyler Steenburgen, Drake Batherson, Michael McLeod, Boris Katchouk and Brett Howden
Formenton went unsigned last year by Ottawa, and played overseas.
Steenburgen was Arizona property and in the AHL, and is now playing overseas.
Comtois currently has no contract after Anahiem not qualifying him.
Howden was extended a QO by Vegas, but they have not signed him yet.
Steel was just signed by Dallas.
McLeod was just re-signed by NJ.
Batherson is in year 3 of a 6 year deal with Ottawa.
Katchouk was traded from TB to CHI in Hagel trade, and is in last year of 3 year deal.

Several team execs, sponsors and player agents tell me they are bracing for the NHL's possible release of an investigation report re an alleged sexual assault involving as many as eight players on Canada's 2018 world juniors team.
If NHL names and suspends players allegedly involved, affected players would likely appeal any sanctions to an arbitrator, as per CBA, and may pursue defamation lawsuits vs league, said agent of one player who attended 2018 Hockey Canada gala.
(While an investigating officer in October wrote in court documents he believes there are grounds to charge at least five players, police in London continue to decline comment other than to say an investigation is ongoing.)
The rumors that are out there seem to point to Formenton, Batherson, and McLeod as 3 of the 5 main players involved. There are a couple of players not listed above that may also be involved. Dillon Dube of Calgary is one that has commented and was on that team, that might have also been involved.
Batherson is the most established player out of any potentially thought to have been involved.

Coyotes have placed Alex Galchenyuk on waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract. No further details will be given at this time.
Kind of weird. Arizona signed him on July 1st to a 1 year deal. I'm wondering if he decided he doesn't have it in him to continue playing, or didn't realize he had a lesser salary if waived and sent to the AHL. Or he wants to go back to Europe. Some have wondered if he had a relapse...he was twice rumored to have been in NHL Assistance Program for drugs and alcohol while with Montreal. That info can be kept quiet (player can say they want to keep it confidential), but several years ago former Canadians coach Mario Tremblay reportedly outed Galchenyuk during a radio interview.

Flyers are waiving DeAngelo, assuming for a buyout. Also assuming they have a 2nd buyout window.
This seems to indicate Carolina is not acquiring him, and maybe puts them in better position for a Karlsson trade.

--Reported made racial slurs in Juniors, including one at a teammate.
--Lasted one half season in Arizona, after he was suspended 3 games for abuse of an official. Then traded to Rangers at season's end.
--In NY he was making some very vocal political statements on Twitter that rubbed people the wrong way. His tenure in NY ended after a "miscommunication" on the ice led to Pittsburgh winning in OT 5-4. It also led to a fist fight in the locker room following the loss, where DeAngelo (who was on the ice for the goal) mouthed something at Alexander Georgiev in the locker room, and rumors are Georgiev cold-cocked DeAngelo. DeAngelo was waived the next day.
--I don't know if he had any specific incidents in Carolina, but he also never came close to the one great season he had in NY.
