Great comment!!!Crash66 wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:18 pmIf we didn't have Kyle Dubas we'd be looking for a Kyle Dubas. Isn't that how it goes?

Philly retains already on Hayes. He’s only $3.5 mill cap hit as is. We’ll see what the trade is. He’s better offensively than Eller.

FWIW sounds like it might have been bigger than just Hayes
Hearing Torey Krug blocked the trade the Blues had to send Kevin Hayes to PIT.

Things were moving fast until everyone started trading their picks.
One nice thing about Howe, he played and produced with Bedard and then changed his game to still be effective. Not all players can play with talent like that and then still do some things on their own.

Feels good to see Jesse Marshall give the picks an A so far.

Hayes and Blues 2025 2nd for nothing. That's good

Tanner Jeannot to the Kings. One less landing spot for Smith?

Hayes is $3.5 mill. 3C. This is fine.

2nd and a 4th. I wouldn’t trade that much for Jeannot.SteelCityFan wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:29 pmTanner Jeannot to the Kings. One less landing spot for Smith?

So we got a 2nd for taking on his contract and using up most of our free cap space. Not worth it.

Recoups the 2025 2nd round pick we didn’t have next season.
See if we move Eller or Acciari , and Smith.

I'm totally fine with it. It fills the 3C need, it's only for 2 years, and we get a 2nd. This is a savvy move and I like it.DelPen wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:30 pmSo we got a 2nd for taking on his contract and using up most of our free cap space. Not worth it.

It makes no sense if we don't move Eller. Eller at 34 is better than Hayes at 32. I'm ok with the pick for a cap dump, but just means Dubas has more work to do to clear salary.thehockeyguru wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:33 pmI'm totally fine with it. Eller has one year left so he will be dealt it's just a matter of when and for whatFLPensFan wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:35 pmIt makes no sense if we don't move Eller. Penguins analysis
What a bizarre move by the Penguins. Less than 24 hours after general manager Kyle Dubas said the Penguins need to get younger and faster, he has traded for Kevin Hayes, a very accomplished but very slow player who was a healthy scratch with the Blues at times last season. Very interesting. — Josh Yohe

Waiting to fully judge the Hayes deal until all of the dirt settles to the bottom of the tank and we can see what the overall NHL roster looks like. That said, adding a 2nd next year to take on a guy @ 3.1 for only 2 years is good business. Not a long-term anchor of a bad contract by any means.

Re: Penguins 2024 NHL Draft Thread
But Eller could also be slotted into the 4C position with Acciari at RW. Trade Smith to replace Hayes' cap space and it really becomes Hayes for Smith.thehockeyguru wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:41 pmEller has one year left so he will be dealt it's just a matter of when and for whatFLPensFan wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:35 pmIt makes no sense if we don't move Eller. Teams are rumored to want Eller. Maybe Dubas has a deal in place and wanted to get 3C figured out before trading. I like this kind of move. Will trade him at the deadline next season and get more picks/prospects.FLPensFan wrote: Sat Jun 29, 2024 12:35 pmIt makes no sense if we don't move Eller. Eller at 34 is better than Hayes at 32. In a snapshot, I will agree with Yohe, but who's to say Hayes will even be on the roster in September or playing nightly? For all we know, Dubas sends him to WBS during training camp, waives or trades him.

Hayes is s-l-o-w. He is also 32. If the idea is to get older and slower, great add!
