Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
DK on his pod today talked about the Sid contract. He said it's a certainty that Sid will sign the contract. He thinks it will be what everyone has already stated, 3 X $10mill. Or $10,001 to make him the highest paid player on the team ahead of Karlsson.
I don't think Sid really cares about being the highest paid player on the team to be honest. I'm sure if Dubas said to Sid if you take a mill or two less I can get X player he would do it.
Looking forward to getting this wrapped up.

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Why? There could be 1000s of reasons why. Dubas is on vacation, Crosby's on vacation, Crosby's agent is on vacation, the notary is on vacation, Crosby would rather enjoy his offseason away from Pittsburgh and will sign on the first day of camp, to name a few.KG wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 1:22 pmHopefully tomorrow is the day! Honestly, at this point in his HOF career, Crosby deserves the benefit of the doubt and I think if he wants to leave Pittsburgh for another cup, more power to him. He's been a class act for almost 20 years as a professional (I think before as well). While I respect your right to question things, I'd ask why you'd want to. Don't do it to yourself.

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Why would Crosby want the GM to sign Letang and Malkin to extensions so they could finish their careers together only for him to leave after 2025? Isn’t he doing his “friends” a disservice? Leaving doesn’t make sense

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
Maybe he wanted that because their was a promise to keep the team relevant then they failed so he wants to leave. Wanting to leave and wanting to stay both make sense.Wyopen wrote: Wed Aug 07, 2024 9:48 amWhy would Crosby want the GM to sign Letang and Malkin to extensions so they could finish their careers together only for him to leave after 2025? Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
For sure it is possible that is the outcome, and I still think he will re-sign, but I have to say that if the information is true that Crosby was a major factor in Malkin and Letang being re-signed instead of correctly being let go, then his leaving would be a major scum bag move. I revere Crosby but IF that were all true then he should stay and see the ship sink that he had a hand in scuttling...IF it is all true and he was an instrumental factor in keeping them, which we don't really know for sure (although I strongly believe).

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
If Crosby wants to stay in Pittsburgh, play with Geno and Tanger for a few more years, eventually retire a Penguin having never played for any other team.. He would be behind only #66. And those that haven't appreciated Lemieux might even call him the greatest Penguin of all time. His legacy firmly secure. The Penguins he leaves behind would have had the benefit of a couple of more years of the captain, o my captain, raising the floor and ceiling a bit on some of them. Sid being Sid, he'd be undisputed. The maximum price Penguins will agree on should be "yes, please".Daniel wrote: Tue Aug 06, 2024 4:55 pmWhy? There could be 1000s of reasons why. If he doesn't, find a good deal that works for Sid. Let him go and chase a cup. He's earned it, I'll cheer for Crosby even against the Pens (still hoping we'd win if it ever came to it).
I don't think he signs today just 'to be cute' with the date. I think Crosby and agent have been talking on and off to Dubas, parted on speaking terms, then went on vacation/down time/family time/time not spent thinking hockey. I figure just before Sid returns to Pittsburgh for hockey, they sign a deal.
Might be pure speculation, but I think both parties are comfortable with each other, enough that they're not worrying about a deal (not) getting done.

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
From what I have read, Crosby was on vacation in July. I don't have access to his calendar, but I believe he is "around." I will say, as others have pointed out, that this contract may not be as easy as some think, due to potential 35+ language. If Crosby wants a 5 year deal, back loaded, with lots of signing bonus vs salary, that can cause potential future issues for the team. (Think Jeff Carter contract). It will get done, but it may be taking longer to get the right term and the right structure that works for both the team and Crosby.Puck-Lurker wrote: Wed Aug 07, 2024 12:21 pmIf Crosby wants to stay in Pittsburgh, play with Geno and Tanger for a few more years, eventually retire a Penguin having never played for any other team.. So, if Sid does not sign by midnight tonight, will he wake up tomorrow a basic hockey player? I mean, I'm pretty worried here! What if he loses his power???

Out of curiosity, does Sid make a lot of money in Canada on endorsements?

According to Rob Rossi article this week:Tico Rick wrote: Wed Aug 07, 2024 7:51 pmOut of curiosity, does Sid make a lot of money in Canada on endorsements?
He remains one of the league’s most endorsed players, drawing around $4 million annually from partnerships with Gatorade, Tim Hortons, Bell and CCM.

Counterpoint: the team is stale and there's no real way to make it much better.Wyopen wrote: Wed Aug 07, 2024 9:48 amWhy would Crosby want the GM to sign Letang and Malkin to extensions so they could finish their careers together only for him to leave after 2025? I'm not saying I want this or the Pens would do this (this is well above Dubas' pay grade), but trading Crosby would be one heck of a jumpstart to a rebuild and would allow the stale players to move on as well.

Re: Surprised Crosby has not extended yet
I think the only way this is considered is if Crosby asks for it. Unless he whines and ******** about the team (dying alive) and just asks for the betterment of him and the team, the fans will be forgiving. I think if Dubas asks the fans won't be as forgiving. Either way, it's a very delicate situation. Really for him, Malkin, and Letang, but especially Sid.pfim wrote: Thu Aug 08, 2024 9:44 amCounterpoint: the team is stale and there's no real way to make it much better.Wyopen wrote: Wed Aug 07, 2024 9:48 amWhy would Crosby want the GM to sign Letang and Malkin to extensions so they could finish their careers together only for him to leave after 2025?
