Re: 2024 Rookie/Training Camp Thread
I am fine with the goalies. I’d imagine Dubas shopped Jarry but nothing reasonable was found.
Blomqvist and Murashov in AHL with some looks in the NHL. I am excited for these twos potential.
Looking at past winners of ECHL goalie of the year leaves me thinking Gauthier is still a long shot at making the NHL. I am not a scout though so maybe he surprises.
Larsson had a chance and blew it. He righted the ship but still will be lucky to get a second chance in NHL.
I am fine with Larsson and Gauthier in ECHL.
They need to find a way to get Blomqvist and Murashov NHL action this year. Hopefully by trading Jarry or Ned.

Re: 2024 Rookie/Training Camp Thread
Gauthier went undrafted, worked hard and got a contract. Played well in the ECHL, but he's 23 now and the clock is ticking. If he doesn't get an AHL job, I imagine he asks to be traded to a franchise where he can move up. If we trade one of our veteran forwards, include the guy.100565 wrote: Tue Sep 17, 2024 9:06 pmI am fine with the goalies. I’d imagine Dubas shopped Jarry but nothing reasonable was found.

If he's not able to outplay Ned, Blomqvist or a very young Murashov.. no hope here. And I would kinda rate Larsson about as high as Gauthier too. It's nice that he was ECHL goalie of the year... but unless that translates to a higher skill level than the competition meh.

Re: 2024 Rookie/Training Camp Thread
sure, you are FINE with everything, it doesnt affect and bother you, what you wrote is kinda ignorant - as some facts were stated (Larsson being best goalie in Sweden last season - which is better league than AHL, Gauthier goalie of the year in ECHL) Im pretty sure both Larsson and Gauthier will be pissed buried in poor quality league like ECHL.. and how exactly Larsson blew a chance, what chance??100565 wrote: Tue Sep 17, 2024 9:06 pmI am fine with the goalies. Don’t worry Pens4life, a goalie will be traded prior to the start of the season. As to which one, not sure.

Re: 2024 Rookie/Training Camp Thread
I don't know that I'd bet on a trade prior to the season. I figure most teams have little cap room and are probably close to their contract limit. My guess is that they'll have to wait a while into the season for other teams to have injuries or have goalies totally flop and then come looking to the Pens for goalie depth.Wyopen wrote: Wed Sep 18, 2024 8:34 amDon’t worry Pens4life, a goalie will be traded prior to the start of the season. “His first pro season didn’t go as well. In 10 appearances for Grand Rapids, Larsson was 2-5-0 with 4.01 GAA and .843 save percentage. Sent to Toledo in the ECHL, Larsson was 4-6 with a 2.72 GAA and .910 save percentage. The next season Red Wings loaned Larsson to Almtuna IS of Hockey Allsvenskan, Sweden’s second division. Larsson was injured there. Then, his Swedish team loaned him to a team in Denmark.”

2-5-0 with 4.01 GAA and .843 save percentage Is blowing a chance.
Either of these two could continue to perform at a high level and be good NHL goalies, but I wouldn’t hold my breath.

McGroarty in Crosby's group, but playing with DOC and Poulin on a line today.
EDIT: I also find it a little interesting that Acciari is on Team 4, which isn't even a full team...and everyone else on that team I believe is an undrafted or unsigned player attending camp.

Oh.. that's such a shame. Let's hope Nieto recovers from his injury so he'll be healthy soon.. like even as soon as.. mid april 2025 maybe.

Re: 2024 Rookie/Training Camp Thread
Hayes seems to be playing wing so far. During the informal session he played along side Geno. Yesterday along Lizotte. Today he is playing wing next to Lizotte and Acciari.
Little surprising they are using him as wing being that Sully prefers a lot of speed on the wing.

Kevin Hayes had a hat trick in today's scrimmage, playing on a line with Lizotte and Acciari.

Hayes-Lizotte-Acciari. Definite potential 4th line.FLPensFan wrote: Thu Sep 19, 2024 10:47 amKevin Hayes had a hat trick in today's scrimmage, playing on a line with Lizotte and Acciari.
For the 2nd day in a row Bunting-Eller-Glass is a line as well. Could see Sullivan trying to spread the offense out throughout the lineup. Eller isn't much of a playmaker though.

Sullivan: don't take these training camp line combinations too seriously.
Pens fans everywhere: let's completely analyse these to death!
DOC/Poulin/McGroarty for example. No clue what to make of that.

Re: 2024 Rookie/Training Camp Thread
Lost in the shuffle of this training camp is Poulin. This is his make or break year (as a Penguin at least). He almost has to make the team or be dealt. I really don't think 31 teams would pass on him if he were to be exposed on waivers. Now, that all changes if they deal Acciari or Eller. It'll be interesting to see how the bottom of the forward lineup shakes out.Daniel wrote: Thu Sep 19, 2024 2:11 pmThat's the we're teasing the fans and giving them hope for youth line.Puck-Lurker wrote: Thu Sep 19, 2024 1:31 pmSullivan: don't take these training camp line combinations too seriously.

Re: 2024 Rookie/Training Camp Thread
I think a DOC/Poulin/McGroarty line would make for a nice 3rd line with the potential to possibly be a 2nd line on a lot of teams. I'd love to see Sullivan show patience and let them work towards success rather than 1 mistake and you're out.dark_forces wrote: Thu Sep 19, 2024 2:25 pmLost in the shuffle of this training camp is Poulin.
