Isles putting Engvall and his way too long contract on waivers.
Teams, including the Pens, should do this more often..no one is touching that contract.,,same with Hayes contract

Interesting move there JR. Guess they just wanted to clear the Poolman contract.

If the Pens would put Graves on waivers and no one claims, what would the salary become against the cap?

Yep, even better choice. Saves the team from having to lose someone else they might like with a better/cheaper contract

So they waived both Boko Imama and Sebastian Aho means two things: according to Haase…

1. It’s still possible for both Harrison Brunicke and Rutger McGroarty to fit on the roster. But not guaranteed.

2. Ryan Shea, Valtteri Puustinen, Jesse Puljujarvi are on the opening roster due tomorrow.

At least Dubas isn’t dumb enough to Puustinen…

Only thing keeping Puustinen safe right now are day to day injuries to Lizotte and Rust.

We’ll see. I think it’s bad asset management to waive him initially. Later in the season, depending on what other teams have done,it might be safer. But they should look for a trade first because he has some value

NPR but a trade as teams finalize rosters. Strange trade for Colorado. They just signed Brannstrom as a UFA this summer.

I'm guessing they thought Ludvig was an upgrade. Also, Poolman hasn't played in almost 2 years, concussion issues I believe.
Or Brannstrom isn’t much better than Ludvig is and they save $125k and I assume Poolman is going on LTIR. But not sure why the Nucks didn’t just claim Ludvig and put Poolman on LTIR themselves.

Before IR or LTIR we are over the cap by about $820k per puckpedia but that also doesn’t account for Bernice. Nieto on LTIR solves that but it’s better to be complaint first otherwise you don’t get full relief. I expect McGroarty to go to WBS to finesse the cap, then Nieto on LTIR which opens the cap space back up. And then I think if Rust isn’t ready McGroarty gets in the lineup. We would also need either lizotte or Ned to go to LTIR if they want to have Brunicke up for some more games or have him up over McGroarty if Rust is fine.

I Also forgot that St. Ivan’s has waiver exemption too so he could possibly end up in WBS if they still want to give brunicke a shot so they can still field the roster they want with some options.

I like Puustinen, but I didn't see him do anything to keep his job. He doesn't PK. He's undersized and his only above average attribute is his shot. I think a lot of people over estimate his value. Below are 8 forwards that are on waivers, 25 and under in age, and 800K or less in cap hit.

Player1: 7 goals, 22 points in 102 NHL games, 775K, age 24
Player2: 4 goals, 10 points in 37 NHL games, 800K, age 23
Player3: 0 goals, 0 points in 7 NHL games, 775K, age 24
Player4: 0 goals, 0 points in 7 NHL games, 800K, age 23
Player5: 15 goals, 28 points in 127 NHL games, 775K, age 25
Player6: 6 goals, 8 points in 23 NHL games, 825K, age 23
Player7: 5 goals, 21 points in 53 NHL games, 775K, age 25
Player8: 6 goals, 16 points in 107 NHL games, 775K, age 25

Without attaching names to any of them, none of these guys blow me away in terms of numbers. Now, if someone here is a 4th liner, maybe there's some solid defending and forecheck attributes in there that may be of help too. But I think all of these guys likely pass through waivers.

Nedeljkovic was listed as being week to week. It's lower body, and if you saw the play he was injured on, I'm guessing it's a groin. I am expecting Ned to go on LTIR, which helps with a lot of the numbers and making them fit.

I believe only $1,125,000 of his cap hit would come off, the rest would still count.

Rutger and Jack assigned to WBS tomorrow.
Then Matt, Blake, Vasily, and Ned to LTIR on Tuesday.
Rutger recalled.
Harry gets his 7 game look.
Then they decide between burning a year of control vs. sending back.

Almost correct. The current amount is 1.15M cap relief. League minimum plus 375K.
($775,000 + $375,000 = $1,150,000)

You shouldn't look at how much cap hit stays on the books, but how much gets freed up in return.

Our guys in the AHL will make anywhere between 775k and 950k. So you can bury any contract over 1.15M and call one of the guys up from down there. The cap hit decreases slightly, but not much.

Waiving Graves should be on the table this season. He's the new JMFJ.

For Graves, the best hope is to trade him with 50% retained. And that's likely going to cost us a good pick or prospect to have someone pickup 2.25M for 4 years.

I'd pass on that, to be honest. Think you're better off trying to teach Graves how to hockey at that term and cost. I had hopes that Graves would look improved in camp and was disappointed.

DK still doesn't think McGroarty makes the team. He thinks they want him to play with more pace and going down to WBS will help him.

I don't know, from what I've seen McG is a very smart 2-way player. I get sending him down to play top 6 minutes can help his growth, but he's already a better option on the 3rd line on the Pens then Beauvillier etc.

I would have him make the team personally.

Anyone on waivers that could interest the Pens?

Don't see us having any interest in forwards since we already have way too many.

But maybe a D? Losing Ludvig and potentially Aho hurts the d depth obviously. Brannstrom is a player a lot of us wanted to bring in, is on waivers and available. Guess it depends on if the plan is to go with 14 forwards or 8 D men.

I could see it going either way. I'm not going to be worried if he doesn't make it. But, I also don't see him improving his skating much. He's already been working with someone the past 2 summers. Needs to play with more pace is the kiss of death in Sullivan's system...ask Sam Poulin.

It's also a bit ironic to tell McGroarty he needs to play with more pace while inserting Kevin Hayes into your lineup every game. Playing with more pace isn't always just about speed, but, again...Hayes. *shrug*

Also shows a disconnect between Sullivan and Dubas. Why would Dubas trade for someone that obviously isn't a fit for Sullivan's system?

Yeah, pace of play for Sullivan doesn’t mean foot speed. He means quickness of his decision making. I didn’t see a lack of that but whatever, and I’m not sure DK has the pulse of the team. But I’m in favor of McGroarty going down and becoming a top six producer. Hopefully in a couple months he can develop his scoring more and get a chance with Sid or Geno. We desperately need top six scoring and DOC isn’t it. I’m happy to give him additional time but a player like DOC is really a third line player on any other team

According to DK - looks like Brunicke not staying: https://www.dkpittsburghsports.com/team ... e_vignette

Not exactly sure you can read that from the lines, but we will see.
