Game 9 vs Oilers: Thoughts from the Morning After

Post by Admin »

  • Penguins gave up 50 shots on goal.
  • Way to play solid defense in front of the rookie goalie...
  • Blomqvist made 46 saves and was the only reason this wasn't more embarrassing.
  • I get answering the bell and all of old-school hockey but do they really want Pettersson punching Nurse's helmet?

Maybe he was trying to be a human defibrillator and trying to revive this corpse of a franchise.

The Old 2-9’er was on fire last night about the amount of quit this team has. Joel Blomqvist was the only player spared a negative comment, and rightfully so.

Maybe Bourque should take over behind the bench and locker room and call out the sweaters that are just along for the ride...

What just doesnt make sense to me is that you have both Sid and Geno at significantly lower rates than what they should be making and yet the rest of the team is full of 3rd liners. How?

How good would Matheson look instead of Karlsson? Marino over Graves? Not saying Matheson is better, but he's a better fit.
How about Lafferty over Hayes?

John Marino is about the same contract as Graves and would be better.
Matheson over Karlsson gives you over $5M in cap space AND a 1st round pick in last years draft (Konsta Helenius).
Lafferty over is about another $1M.

Even if you kept Rakell & Bunting, just replacing Karlsson/Graves with Matheson/Marino, you'd have about $6M for a better top 6 option.

My thoughts are that I’m glad I didn’t renew NHL Center Ice this year. It would suck having to watch this compete level all the time.

I watched the 3rd period after getting home. That was a waste of time.

It’s all wrapped up in the hall of fame defense….buckle up, it’s gonna get much worse :thumb:
