Been a long time since a Penguins Team has had a night like tonight.9 Goals,6 in the 3rd Period.
Sid had a memorable night,he was in a zone.Rust and Rakell right there with him. They were flying all game.
Jarry made a few decent stops in the 2nd when it was still close.Solid night from him.
Letang started off terribly but turned it around and was a big positive as the game wore on.His skating was a big difference.
Pens forecheck and counterattack was outstanding.Took advantage of a weak Montreal Team that cannot Defend at all.
Hard to find anything to complain about a 9-2 blowout victory.Despite the Goals from Nieto and Acciari still not a fan of moving Lizotte down to the 4th Line or scratching Puljujarvi which are Sullivan decisions that just aren't sound.Didn't hurt them tonight but that won't last IMHO.

Would have liked Sid to get a goal or two when we score 9.

6th win in last 8 games and we are 2 pts behind playoffs..
We wont get rid of Sully any time soon,uuugh.. also some of his pet players scoring, so Puljujarvi wont play more than 3 games in next 15,if at all.. First line is on fire, really some nice plays, chemistry visible.
Jarry was pretty solid, made couple of nice saves at 1:1, blaming him for 2nd goal is nuts hehe.
We probably start losing again when Sid and Geno start scoring lol.. just 14 goals between oldtimers so far, Sid with 1 goal in last 11 games (even tho he is point per game almost) and Geno with 1 in 16 games, but Rusty and Rakell having great scoring season.
Habs defense was brutally bad this game, so many bad coverages, wide gaps, bad passes like Primo for Rusty's 3rd goal, where there was 4 Montreal players close to each others and he has brainfart and tries to ice it,when not needed lol, straight to Rust stick..

I know there is a lot of angst since Puljujarvi hasn't been playing, and he's definitely had his flashes this year, and we have old guys that are very one dimensional-PK only types (Nieto), but during this stretch where he's been a constant healthy scratch, they have won 6 out of 8. Just sayin'.

Do Puljujarvi a favor and find a trading partner for him. At least he deserves that if he not allowed to play.

Over the last 18 team games, Puljujarvi has sat out for 7 of those games. Even without going back and looking at his shifts and using the eye test, it's really hard to argue with those numbers that he was the problem or deserves to be sitting on the bench. He's in the top half or top end of all of those categories. You have a top 6 guy like Malkin middle to the bottom of the pack, and the geezer line is continually pulling up the rear. Puljujarvi had goals in back to back games (against SJ then TB), then had zero points and a penalty in each of the next 2 games....then Sullivan started benching him.
There was some word that the Penguins never intended on playing him all 82 games because they still wanted to monitor his hip recovery....but I'm not sure I buy it. If they were doing that, you sit him a game or two tops unless there is a setback...and there's no reason for Puljujarvi or the team to not state that "This is part of my recovery and monitoring plan." His speed burst has returned, and he has looked great on the ice.
What Sullivan sees that makes him think he deserves to be benched over Nieto or Hayes is truly puzzling. I get Acciari to some degree, because to me, Acciari is playing better overall and plays both C and W. I think that is what earns him a pass sometimes. But Puljujarvi needs to play and it appears he deserves to be playing.

Your problem, along with others, is that you just aren't a top two or three coach in the league so you just can't understand. You keep trotting out nonsense like numbers, and stats, and eye tests, and evaluations of play and impact on the game as if any of that nonsense means anything. Just leave it to the top two or three experts.

Re: Official GDT: Pens @ Habs 12/12/24
I mean, I loved seeing all those goals but I have to admit that it grieves me to see Nieto and Acciari scoring because of what many of you already said - they will never leave the lineup again and Puljujarvi will gain 20 pounds eating press box food. JP isn't going to make them a Cup contender but he (as illustrated with the stats above) is clearly one of the team's top 9 forwards, if not higher. It's completely a personal preference by the coach that this guy is sitting in favor of Nieto/Acciari/Hayes...
Beauvillier has taken a lot of heat on here but I don't have a problem with him so far. He's actually exceeded my expectations, to be honest. I would say he's definitely tradeable for something by the deadline. I would prefer someone from WBS up in his place but we all know that stuff doesn't happen much with the coach, so trade him while his value is at its zenith. Not that he'll fetch a high pick but he may be able to pull a 3rd from someone who's desperate for depth at the deadline, though my judgment may be clouded by Rutherford's shooting picks for trade targets like fireworks.

And lest anyone gets excited over a 9-2 blowout win.. it's the 5th worst team in the league against the 9th worst team in the league by points %.

Maybe not. But I think beating Vancouver, Boston, Calgary, Florida, and Toronto over the last 8 games might be mildly exciting.Puck-Lurker wrote: Fri Dec 13, 2024 10:29 amAnd lest anyone gets excited over a 9-2 blowout win.. it's the 5th worst team in the league against the 9th worst team in the league by points %.
