Yohe has an article up where he interviewed Dubas. KD said the plan is to bring the final candidates to Pittsburgh the last week of May and have a new coach hired by June 1st.
Yohe also had an article asking Crosby about the coaching change. Here are the Crosby quotes:
“I wouldn’t say I’m surprised by anything that happened, to be honest,” Crosby said. “I understand it. I’ve played long enough now to know that there’s always going to be … some kind of change, when you don’t get the results that you want. And we haven’t gotten the results that we’ve wanted for a while now. That’s part of losing. That’s the part of things that makes losing so difficult.”
“He did an unbelievable job with us,” Crosby said. “If you really think about it, 10 years is an incredibly long time to coach a team in the NHL. We’re fortunate that we made so many great memories with him as our coach.”
That tone changes when talking about the future, and specifically when he’s asked whether he could play a prominent role in determining the next Penguins coach. “No,” he said tersely. Really? “Nope,” he repeated.
"I don’t have any say on who our next coach is going to be,” Crosby said. “And I prefer it that way.”
“Because, ultimately, I’m a hockey player,” Crosby said. “I’m not out there coaching games. I am not a manager.”
“If he wants my opinion on someone who’s out there, and someone who is out there that I might have had as coach before or someone I’ve heard about, then sure, then I’ll share my opinion,” Crosby said. (referencing Tocchet) “Yes, that is someone I’m familiar with,” Crosby said. “But the thing with him is that he’s going to have a ton of teams after him.”
“It really doesn’t matter. I don’t care,” Crosby said. “I really don’t. I just want to win, and I want the person behind the bench who is going to give us the best chance to win.”
“Kyle’s going to have decisions to make,” Crosby said. “He’s going to do what is best for this team.”
