In OV’s 20 year career, he has only been past the 2nd round of the playoffs once. 2018 when they won the Cup.
That’s wild. He’s lucky he got that one cup, if not he would be viewed a little differently.

That's a crazy stat! I looked a bit more into it.KG wrote: Fri May 16, 2025 5:53 amIn OV’s 20 year career, he has only been past the 2nd round of the playoffs once. 2018 when they won the Cup.

It has been 20 seasons since Ovechkin's debut:
- The Capitals qualified for the playoffs in 16 occasions. They missed it in '06, '07, '14 and '23.
- Overall, they went 8-8 in the first round and 1-7 in the second round.
- They lost in the 1st round 8 times to 7 different teams. Only team that knocked them out twice was the Rangers, in '13 and '24.
- Their 8 first round wins were also against 7 different teams. Only team they've beaten twice is also the Rangers, in '09 and '11.
- They won in the first round 4 consecutive times in that span, between 2015-2018. It was followed by 4 consecutive first round eliminations though, between 2019-2022.
- In the second round, Penguins eliminated them 3 times - '09, '16, '17, Rangers twice - '12, '15, and Tampa ('11) and Carolina ('25) one each. Their only win in this round was against the Penguins, in their '18 Cup run.
- This year's win in the first round aganst Montreal was their first after 5 eliminations. It was their first playoff win since winning the Cup.
In these 20 seasons, in the regular season they've won the division 11 times, the old Southeast division 5 times and the current Metro 6 times. They've also won the Presidents' trophy 3 times.

Re: Other NHL Games >>>>>>>
As I just mentioned in the Pens HC thread.... Washington is *not* the organization that the Pens should even remotely consider using to fill their head coach position.
This is a team that historically has tried to employ ex-Pens to replicate their success. The current Pens need no part of the Capitals recent "success".

I was rooting against the Caps more than usual because we get their 2025 2nd round pick.
Also Toronto has to blow it up.

Florida putting on a clinic out there.
Would love for the Pens to build a tough two-way team like them.

Yeah, nice to watch them get destroyed again. But I will be rooting for the Canes to take the East.

Wow! Guess I read it right but just read on the NHL that last night was the 13 straight loss for the Canes in the Eastern Conference Finals. Ninth in a row under coach Brind'Amour. I had no idea it was that bad. Guess this old guy just forgot.

Looks like the Canes may be swept again. Maybe the Canes could use Jarry.

Re: Other NHL Games >>>>>>>
You need star power to win it all. Carolina is solid in many ways and areas, but not good enough to win it all.
Panthers are certainly in their heads.

Last win past the 2nd round for Carolina was in their '06 cup run. They made to the ECF in '09, '19 and '23 and were swept every time.offsides wrote: Wed May 21, 2025 12:58 pmWow! Since the conferences were realigned in 1994, there were 4 sweeps in the ECF. The 4th one was Boston sweeping the Pens in '13.
Buffalo has won a game in the ECF more recently than Carolina as they lost 4-1 to Ottawa in '07.
