Can't say I blame him. He hasn't really done any better than any of the other blue liners, but he certainly hasn't been worse than Melichar.

Not sure how much of a market there would be for a guy who's had one nice stretch offensively and sucks defensively... then again, you never know when the deadline starts to roll around and a team looking for a cheap PP addition maybe... who knows.

Jackman has obviously had enough of being benched, so hopefully they will either start playing him or trade him. I don't understand why he is/was scratched ahead of guys like Tarnstrom,Gonchar,Melichar,Poapst,Odelin, and even Whitney who has had alot worse games then some of Jackman's.

The fact is that he sucks defensively but he has shown a willingness to improve and he has been finishing his checks. Most importantly he isnt any worse than most of the other guys but he does score! If they want him to improve his defense then why havent they brought in a specialist? Therrian use to play defense is he out there working on it with him or is Jackman suppose to rent Ray Bourques How To tape? Even if he is as bad as they say why don't they at least let him work the point and take a couple 5 on 5 shifts/game? I mean 8 minutes isnt going to kill the team is it?

See, I don't think hes been that bad defensivly. I mean, no worse than a Odeline or a Melichar, and he brings more to the game offensivly! As he said, hes only 27, he could be a nice 5th or 6th defensemen next year with the nice partner and in a good system.

We will regret if we trade him. And to think we got him for Drake Berehowski. :P

Exactly. it's like he isnt good enough for that lineup! Pretty silly when you look at the statistics. Maybe they can send him to a good clinic this summer.

I hear RMU Island Sports Center has some good hockey clinics.

I'm just saying. Maybe he can skate with their NCAA team, although i'm not sure if he'd dress most nights...

I don't blame him either. He has defensive shortcomings, but no worse than what we've seen from Tarnstrom or Gonchar, plus Jackman was actually producing offense to help offset his defensive weaknesses and he's a right shot.

I realy don't understand how he's not playing. The comments about his defense seem really hollow to me.

I think he adds the occassional physical element that Gonchar and Tarnstrom don't have.

Perhaps he is being scratched to force him to play more physical, because it is felt that he has the most potential of the non younger defensemen (Orpik, Whitney).

If anybody recalls, Jackman was called out for his defensive shortcomings awhile ago. Since then, I think he's improved his defensive play dramatically. At least it's better than what it used to be.

Ric Jackman is the whipping boy for the failure of the Penguins' defense this year. If he was never benched in the first place, he'd still be putting up the offensive numbers at least. Now, he's not even doing that.

He sacrificed most of his offensive ability in order to improve his defensive game. Now, he's not the player he used to be.

Jackman is still the second highest scorind Penguins d-man despite a big discrepancy in games played.

I'm confused too, I'd like to see him play more, and the times MT did play him he didn't get any PP time, instead Recchi got time on the point, is Jackman that bad out there that you would put Recchi on the point? I think with the glut of D men now he won't see any more time and will probably be traded, maybe Edmonton will reunite the dick and ric show?

I think the bigger question would be: What could the Pens get for Jackman?

He's only 27, and after last year, I still think he can prosper in the league. I just assume keep him and actually utilize him, but this is the Craig Patrick School of General Managing. What could they possibly get?

I don't know what the return would be but Vancouver needs help along the blueline after losing Jovo for at least six weeks. Jackman's last team, Toronto needs help and I would expect if Tampa Bay trades Pavel Kubina for a goaltender, they might be interested.

If I recall, didn't he have some baggage when he arrived? I think he might have had some personal issues. I wonder if those have resurfaced?

all I've heard about Jackman is the coaching staffs are not happy with his mental lapses in the defensive zone. I have to ask, why is Jackman getting the pine treatment and Gonchar has yet to receive it.

I hope after the Olympic break, the configuration of the roster changes drastically. I know I'll be ripped to pieces but I'd rather have Rico Fata on my team than Shane Endicott. Of course, I'd rather see Austin Lemieux skating for the Penguins than Endicott.

Yeah, and I know one GM that hasn't performed up to the level we anticipated. But he has yet to be scratched, has he?

Patrick picked a great year to be pathetic. Everyone in the media and town is preoccupied with the Steelers and Super Bowl XL. I hope in a week or two, the local stiffs - aka Post-Gazette columnists - start to do their job ripping Patrick and Lemieux for their work with the roster.

with Dick now gone, He'll get a chance

I'm sure it will be the Jackal now on PP unit two, where Dick used to hangout. And I don't think it will take long for Cory Cross  to play himself out of the lineup either.

Good point. I think the best example of how down on Jackman the staff/organization is is that not only has Lyle Odelein dressed and played ahead of him, he has also logged powerplay time while doing so. What a joke...

True enough. But you can't argue about what Therrien has done with the PP. It is about the only thing that has improved since he took over. Taking Jackman off and moving Recchi to the point seems to be working very well.

I don't know if Jackman played the PP long enough to be considered "in place" at the point though...
