I agree that a little homework isn't a bad thing. Study your times tables, study spelling words, etc. The biggest issue comes when middle school hits and there are multiple teachers instead of just one. They all assign a little bit of homework and it adds up.

When I was in high school, I always had the feeling that teachers assumed they were the only teacher we had because the hours of homework they scheduled just wasn't feasible in the cumulative.

In reality it was good training for life, because I would just triage the stuff and ignore the junk that didn't actually benefit me directly. Write a report that gets you X% of a grade, or read chapters of a textbook? Write the report every time.

I never really felt like I had a lot of homework. I mean, projects or papers added to the load, but could easily be spread out. Maybe I just went to an easy school.
