Fair enough.Factorial wrote:I think their target demo for that ad is those who remember who Rob Schneider is and when he was on SNL.JS© wrote:Similar to the McKenzie brothers comment, I wonder if the 30 and under audience have any idea who these characters are.
Who's next in their plans, the ladies man? The Spartan cheerleaders? Toonces the driving cat? Actually I can see the last one happening.
It is usually those 30 and over who are shopping for a better deal on insurance.

I'm 23 and wish they only used pre-2000 SNL references. Those are actually funny. And I recognized them immediately.

theres a 15 second Coors Light commercial with LOL MIKEY & BLARG BOB 96.1 that pops up on the X's iHeartRadio station and it makes me want to just chuck my phone onto I-70. It is so annoying.

That Prius commercial where the kid waits for the rain to wash the car reminds me of the South Park Smug Alert episode.

Re: What current ad campaign makes you contemplate homicide?
I fear that commercials represent that average state of what our country and/or society is. Therefore, when I see some ridiculous commercials it upsets me a little.
1) "Six callers ahead of us, Jimmy."
"You're not helping..."
Yes she is. Your MOM is waiting on the phone for you while you sulk like a little baby. How ungrateful? I get that it's just a commercial, but I'm sure there was a focus group invovled to make sure the content was as relatable as possible. Which means that a majority of the people, at least, that watch that commercial probably think that's the right way to act in that situation. Or that once again, nothing's your fault, let the insurance company be your mom.
2) There's this one for Brawny, I think, where kids blow bubbles into their chocolate milk and make a huge mess while mom looks on approvingly. Maybe that's how parents are these days. And I get it can be cute when kids smash bananas on their heads when they're young, but I can never remember when intentionally making a mess on the table and floor was OK. Is this OK now? I can't stand that prim and proper "We have a beautiful white, spotless, kitchen" attitude. "Oh, wait! It's not so white any more! Little Tommy dun went and made a bubble fortress in his choco milk. Awwww, no big deal. We're overprileged and the biggest issue we have to deal with all day is spilled milk."
Again, I realize it's just a commercial, but I'm afraid it's a reflection of where we are, and it makes me sad.

Rhapsody is forever linked with United Airlines in my mind. Which is a bit unfortunate, because all my FF miles are with United/Star Alliance, and Gershwin is one of my favorite composers.Factorial wrote:Name that ad:

I have never heard Rhapsody in Blue used for any sort of advertisement so I guess that's good that it's not tainted in my head.tifosi77 wrote:Rhapsody is forever linked with United Airlines in my mind. That new-ish ad from the PA lottery showing the mailman talking to the black couple about their dream home, and then the commercial insinuating that you can get your dream home bu purchasing scratch off tickets really annoys me. I know people are responsible for their own actions, but the fact that the state is basically trying to tell people to gamble so their dreams can come true seems really sleazy to me.
