Patrick Rothfuss The Slow Regard of Silent Things is very slow. I don't think I'll finish reading it and I think it's only 150 pages. I really like Name of the Wind and Wise Mans Fear, so I though this (which is all about a character "Auri") would be on the same page. Alas, some things are best let alone. Very well written, but nothing happens.
I was going to read it, but now maybe I won't. I just want the third book to come out.

reviews seem to be split down the middle. I think Auri is a fascinating character and I was thinking this would be a backstory, but it's just a brief glimpse of her finding things and moving them around until they are where she thinks they need to be. Like her in the story, the book is quite maddening. It actually plays more like a lost chapter or two spliced together from the first 2 books. I will probably skim through the 2nd half. I do recommend reading it if you are a fan of his writing, but try and avoid paying $12 for it.

After reading the long interview with Stephen King in Rolling Stone, I decided to go back and read one of his recent novels. I've read Running Man and Hearts in Atlantis and enjoyed them, but I hadn't read anything else by him. So I picked up 11/22/63 and it's a great read so far - time travel and its consequences.

11/22/63 was fantastic. I listened to the audio version and I actually think it was better than if I read it. The format it was written in really begs to be spoken word. I'm sure it's fine in standard book form though.

Enjoy the story. It has 3 distinct acts and I don't know where you are right now. Have you seen IT? LOTS of nods to that book, specifically Richie and Bev...

Speaking of Name of the Wind... I really need to finish reading that some time. I set it down about halfway through and keep forgetting to go back. Of course I'm not in a huge rush since getting through both books will just add another series where I'm waiting for the next book to come out.

At least his book seems to be in the editing stage, meaning it will probably be released next year.

Slow Regard of Silent Things is more like a prose poem that actual fiction. Glad I read it, as Patrick Rothfuss is an incredible writer and I'm happy to support him. But in a nutshell, not worth the $15 or whatever I preordered it for. You could probably read it at the bookstore in 2 hours. Name of the Wind is beautiful if you haven't read it yet... will probably have to reread, as usual, before the next one comes out. Sigh.

Been staring at Infinite Jest on my nightstand for over a year, ominously. Might have to finally go there...

And be sure to charge the same price as books from major, established, best-selling authors. If they're worth it, so are you.

We'll said. I just reread both books thinking the 3rd book was coming out this fall. Looks like I will probably have to reread again next year.

The obvious issue with King and On Writing is that Stephen King is a word freak and he just sits down and vomits stories onto a keyboard. There isn't much to teach. But it is a cool glimpse into his process.

And the autobiographic section is very interesting as well. You can ssee how he developed into the author he was and is. The crimson Kong being a giant spider makes sense after reading On Writing.

On Writing is one of the few King / Bachman books that I haven't read, maybe I'll check it out. Recently finished Desperation and looking forward to Revival, which was published today.

HBO (Jonathan Nolan) is making Isaac Asimov's Foundation series. Has anyone read these?
I did, almost 30 years ago. IIRC, the story has great potential for a GOT style series, if they give it the budget.

No problem, I really enjoyed it. A nice easy read. It was fun looking up all the different atari games and pop culture stuff I didn't remember as I was reading it.
