I just don't get the grandstanding. If there are certain people you want to keep in contact with, then reach out to them. Don't be so lazy as to cast this wide net and beg for people to contact you. Reach out to the people you want to keep in contact with privately, get their info and then move on. No need for the show.

I get that and I don't totally disagree. You also have to think she can contact all of her FB friends at the same time with a status post rather than sending 300+ messages. It seemed like she wants info from anyone who wants to stay in touch with her. The post was much longer than needed. The explanation is what turned me off. My "farewell post" was:

I'm deleting my FB account. Please message me your email or phone number if you want to stay in touch. Thanks.

If you are deleting FB (and this woman said DEACTIVATING....so she'll be back on in a week) post something short and sweet and get it over with.

To be fair, not many realize the difference between deactivating and deleting FB. In fact, I would bet most think they're the same procedure.

You can download everything, including pictures, to a file before deleting. That's what I did. It also includes every status update you've posted and the text from every FB message you've sent and received. I dloaded it, checked the pics, and deleted my account.

I'm still have an active myspace account because I've been too lazy so far to save all the photos on there. But I'm avoiding logging in because I was so young and life was so much simpler back then and I get depressed.

For 2015, I'm going to be deactivating my Facebook account for a period of time so I can focus on real people things, like reading books, learning new skills, and enjoying time away from redneck/bleeding-heart/attention-whoring posts from you guys.
