Reading "The Long Valley" by John Steinbeck. Its a collection of short stories of no more than 20 pages that he wrote for magazines in the 30. He chose a bunch of very morbid themes, but enjoyable nontheless.

finishing up Skeletons on the Zahara. Incredibly tense and readable account of the horrors of slavery of shipwrecked westerners on the African coast by nomadic arabs in the early 19th century.

Finished Wiley Cash's A Land More Kind Than Home last night. Pretty good even if the plot was a little on the thin side.

About done with the first and ready for the second. Nice short read (200 pgs). Highly recommend for fans of lovecraft, kubrick, Margaret Atwood and lost. Haunting is a fitting word for it. Check it out

I just started Haunted. Wow. Disturbing is not strong enough a word.Froggy wrote:Haunted was, in fact, really messed up. I've moved on to my next book. Sticking with Chuck Palahniuk, and reading Diary. I'm about half way through. Pretty good so far. More a straight up psychological horror at this point. It's doing a good job of cultivating a sense of impending doom.

Previous: "The Boys of '98" (Dale Walker), on the Rough Riders. Really good look at the Spanish-American War.
Current: "A Republic No More" (Jay Cost), on the historic growth of the spoils system and the influence of special interest groups in America. So far, a great read.
