I'm 33 and been playing games since I was 4 first playing Intellivision and I would quit gaming before I became a PC gamer.

Getting close to the final mission in AC Unity. The game isn't too bad once they did all the patches and updates. Haven't really had many glitches or anything. Story line is a major downgrade from Black Flag. It's okay, but nothing special.

Same, except Atari 7800 for me. Only PC gaming I do is racing and flight simulators.

Im 34 and still bust out the NES or WII from time to time, and it all started with The Smurfs on my Coleco Vision.

Well, I'm 45 and started with an Atari 2600 around '78, but quickly fell in love with PC gaming when I would go to work with my dad on the weekends to game on the TRS-80 model ii in his office. A few years later, around 1980 we got a TRS-80 Color Computer at home, I did my first dabbling in programming, and I was hooked on PC gaming. I got a Sega Genesis in college and loved it(never cared much for Nintendo games), and later moved to X-Box and X-Box 360, all while constantly upgrading my computers. I've always maintained a simultaneous love for console and PC games, and never understood why someone that likes games would alienate either.

This x 1000

I prefer FPSs on console but RTS on PC.

This was me and still technically is. I got my 360 when it was a couple of years old and my PS3 in the winter of 2011. I will snag an XBone this spring. Decided on an XBone because my buddy (who is also moving out of MD this spring) plays a lot and it will be a good way to keep in touch. If XBone didn't have blu ray I wouldn't get it.

PS4 users, convince me otherwise...

Yeah, I'm gonna go for a XBone this spring too. I play a PS4 at work every day and am so unconvinced that its a better console than the 360, other than the graphics. There are a lot of dumb things about the PS4

Because opportunity cost is an economic reality. The barrier to entry to PC gaming is very very high to play a game to its fullest. Why would you want to settle for less than the developers vision?

This is why the blending of consloes and PCs sucks. The joy of a console is that it should just work.

I don’t attack PC gamers, who am I to tell them how to have fun and spend their money? But there is a playful rivalry there where console players are rubes, but it's also fun to watch PC gamers struggle to max out those sliders with more money.

Doesn't pass the sniff test. I still play, and enjoy the heck out of, 10 to 15+ year old games. PC gaming does not have to entail playing the latest release at max settings. You can get older games for next to nothing, and play them on low spec or used hardware for less than any console. If, for some reason, you must play only the latest releases, then yes, consoles will be cheaper. That is not the case if your interest is simply to play fun games.

Right, but I don’t believe for a second you don't see why there is friction between the two communities. ;)

I have the original Sim City on a Windows 95 VM. I get it. :)

As someone that has been involved in both essentially since their inception, there is a difference between seeing THAT there is versus seeing WHY there is. I know it is there, but I do not see why. I simply do not care about the "latest and greatest", and don't think that really matters anymore. That made a big difference circa 1995-2000, where gaming technology was making leaps and bounds yearly. Now, it hardly matters. I haven't upgraded to a next-gen console, I still have fun, and plenty of games, with the 360. The same goes for my 2+ year old computer. I play a lot of different types of games, so I have a backlog that will keep me busy for a very long time. I guess the biggest thing is that I don't give a crap about multiplayer, so I have no need to get the latest game that "everyone" is playing. I'm happy playing a game that everyone else finished years ago.

Convince you why? Get what system works for you. I always tell people between Ps4/Xbone get the system that more of your friends have. Or get the system that has the most exclusives you want.

This makes no sense. You could substitute Xbox One for Ps4 in that second sentence and it would still be dumb.

Both next gen consoles have their issues. Again it comes down to what you friends play and what exclusives you want. For the most part most cross gen titles will be similar but be probably a bit better on Ps4 because of the slightly better hardware. Last generation cross platform games were better on the 360 for the most part.

I just bought my PS4 about two weeks ago and still don't have any games for it. My wife bought me Alien: Isolation but I packed it for the move and still can't find it. My biggest gripe with the PS4 is that I can't hide the apps they're trying to get me to buy. I know am certain that I will never buy the NBA app, or Hulu. But I guess I'm stuck having it in the middle of my screen for the next 10 years or so. And since the screen is so poorly laid out it really ups my annoyance. The PS3 menu system (the same as Sony BD players) is at least logical but I suppose you have to change it for change sake.

Isn't PS4 online free? I would assume that's the reason for the front and center ads.

Nah you have to pay for playstation on-line now. Similar price to Live I think, plus the PS+ perks are nice so it doesn't bother me.

For a long time I bought games years after their release and usually used.

But I think with online multiplayer becoming such a big component of games (and for a game like Titanfall the entire game) I'm not sure you will be able to do that.

Titanfall is by far my favorite game for either Xbox One or 360. I just think its so balanced that it levels the playing field a bit for players who arent as good (me) but still allows players who are to have fun too. But there arent more than a dozen or two players some evenings on some of the game modes. You have to rely on others wanting to play for you to have fun too.

Also at this point at least I couldn't recommend a next-gen console to someone who doesn't have a strong online connection, or someone who has a data cap because what alot of developers are doing now is shipping games out and then putting out huge day 1 patches to fix issues. AC unity had like a 6 gig patch to fix stuff. I think Halo MCC collection on xbox one had like a 5 or 10 gig patch. It's really pretty sad, but it's how it goes. I can't think of one game I've played that hasn't had a pretty huge patch along the way.

I guess that's the way things are going to be thought with the newer systems. Time constraints so developers put out games that aren't finished and then patch them later.

Well since Titanfall was an exclusive.. it narrows down the player base. Everyone is playing multiplayer right now is playing either Destiny or COD. You have to have a franchise like Halo to be an exclusive and have people playing multiplayer so long after the fact. Titanfall is no Halo.

Last semester I took a Quality Management class and wrote a paper, in part, about the gaming industry using patching as part of the production process and how it harms the user. Took a good swing at EA in the process since EA got sued over Battlefield 4.

At this point, the only PC game I care about is the the final expansion to Starcraft 2. Having played Diablo 3 on console, I much prefer that experience to the PC. There are a couple minor things that might be better on PC, but overall it is much more fun to sit on my couch playing on my big screen TV vs sitting in front of a keyboard and mouse.

I have a computer that is good enough for what I need it to do... I have no desire to go out and spend practically the price of a console on a new video card every couple years to keep up.

The ironic thing about top-end PC gamers is that they spend $1000s on a PC, and then run the game on low-medium settings to get max FPS. Silly.

I like console and PC gaming, but I understand the cost of PC gaming can be prohibitive. I built my main gaming PC about a year ago, added $75 worth of RAM this year, and should be good for at least another year. All in cost was right at $1000 (I have an educational license for Win 8, so that saved me $$).

On a side note, we got COD:AW for the new PS4. I can't, for the life of me, get used to the controls after playing FPS with keyboard and mouse. Maybe it's my "advanced age," as my wife likes to say, but I just can't aim lol. And I'm just playing against bots, lol. I'm thinking about getting rid of it and getting something that my kids can play, like Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare. I got it for the PC and it's a lot of fun.

Lego Batman 3: Beyond Gotham is a lot of fun. I've played for several hours now and I'm about 8% completed. And I haven't added any DLC yet, which I plan on doing once I finish the main game. Stephen Amell voices the Green Arrow, so that's pretty cool.
Lots of cameos in this game, too:
Spoiler:
Conan O'Brien plays a janitor/maintenance person. Kevin Smith plays himself somewhere. Adam West is an add-on side quest on each level, too.
Very cool and surprisingly deep game. I've played several others over the years on PC and the Wii, but this game seems much bigger.
