I'm sure i've already posted here, but i'm doing it again.

My favorite band of all time is Rage Against the Machine

I love RATM too. I'm not sure if they are my favorite, but they are on a short list. Are you getting into Zack's new "project" One Day As A Lion? I like the sound but all the songs on the EP basically sound the same.

What that EP did was just make me wish that RATM would make another album.

My album collection is split between Buzzcocks, Black Flag, Crass, Clash, Pistols, Minor Threat, 7 Seconds, Agent Orange, DKs, MDC, on the one side and REM, The Smiths, The Cure, The Jam, Joy Division on the other.

Can't say that I have any Finnish hardcore but I'll check out that band.

Oh, yeah. See, back in high school I had a dilemma. Should I grow a big red mawhawk like my friend had or grow my hair long. Well, I chose to be more on the metal side and grew my hair long, but I've always liked punk almost as much. When we're talking metal and punk, I'm probably 60% metal and 40% punk. I love all that stuff. Huge Black Flag and Dead Kennedys fan. Some of my favorite bands are GBH, Discharge (great bassist... I love this guy!), Exploited, DRI, COC (early), Bad Brains, Agnostic Front, Cro-Mags, Crumbsuckers... all the NYC hardcore.... Still have my leather jacket with all the pins and patches and a huge Misfits skull painting on the back, although I haven't worn that in 15-20 years.

So, like, you and I would be buddies if we went to high school together.

Husker Du fan? I've been listening to them a lot lately. Not their early hardcore stuff, but their later pop-punk I guess you'd call it.

Did you see American Hardcore? That was a sweet documentary about the movement with a lot of priceless commentary from Rollins, McIntyre, and the dude from Bad Brains. Most of that music escapes me, but i dig how passionate the scene was.

I've been listening a lot to Rites of Spring again, not the same thing but it's still a cool record.

Yeah, I watched that a couple of times. Passionate is right. It's what I miss in a lot of today's music. Hard to find that passion. One of the reasons I'm a huge Motown fan... music was so passionate then. Man, I listen to everything don't I . Anyway, that's a great documentary with a lot of great live footage. Really, any younger person who thinks they're "punk" if they listen to Green Day has to watch it.

I really like Henry Rollins, by the way. Smart and opinionated.

Rites of Spring = very good.

Kings of Leon new album 'Only by the Night' has been on my ipod and winamp playlist for about a week. They have had some decent success in the UK but don't seem to have the same response in the United States. They are actually from Nashville I believe but haven't been able to compete with such amazing artists like Lil Wayne etc...

I've been listening to the Mudcrutch album that came out a few months ago. I've had it on my Zune (yeah, go and laugh, canaan) for a while now and it has just creeped up on me. Good stuff, reminds me a lot of some old Neil Young & Crazy Horse albums. BTW, Mudcrutch was Tom Petty's first band recently reunited for an album and a brief tour.

I've also been enjoying She & Him, which is Zooey Deschanel and M. Ward's album. Not typical of what I normally listen to, but she has a great voice and the album has a real mid-60s vibe to it. Just a little off the beaten path for me.

Queens of the Stone Age is exceptional. I love Rated R, but all of their albums just plain rock.

Ooooh, a chance to be more snobby...

I really really like Kings of Leon, though to be honest their last two albums (Because of the Times and Only by the Night) haven't impressed me as much as their first two (Aha Shake Heartbreak and Youth and Young Manhood) - which are up there as 2 of my favorite albums in the past 5 years.

I've noticed that the producers of Entourage have used KOL in the show's soundtrack quite a bit, and for good reason. If you like Sex on Fire from the new album, I highly recommend you look into downloading a few songs off the first and second albums before you take the plunge for the newer ones.... just my opinion. A few choice cuts from each of their first 3:

I've been listening to the Mudcrutch album that came out a few months ago. I've had it on my Zune (yeah, go and laugh, canaan) for a while now and it has just creeped up on me. I liked the Mudcrutch album also. It dominated my player for most of July.

I also hear ya on the Zooey Deschanel - I got hooked on her after watching the Hitchiker's Guide and Elf. If you haven't already, check out her duet with Leon Redbone on 'Baby It's Cold Outside' off the Elf soundtrack.

Definitely. I was trying limit my list from that album, I'd throw King of the Rodeo up there with Velvet Snow, Pistol of Fire, Soft, Milk, The Bucket, Day Old Blues... really the entire album does it for me.

You know what? These guys (KoL) are pretty good. I've listened to a number of songs now. Probably 10 or 15. I will d/l their stuff. I'll start with the first two albums, then do the other two.

I listened to Rodeo and 4 Kicks probably 5 times each.

I like that they don't smile at all, but also don't go out of their way to seem artificially angry - problem with a lot of fakers for me. They seem genuine.

A friend of mine runs an mp3 list on AOL. She gets me whatever I want, in case I can't find it myself. Pretty cool.

KOL are good, I was skeptical when they first came out because they were tagged by a lot of people as "the southern strokes". I've still never gotten their first album, but Aha Shake Breakdown is really good, i think this will end up going down as their best album, their newer stuff is more "arena" rock i guess.

That sounds like a pretty good deal, i got on to that waffles site (it's where all the oink people migrated to after it got shut down). The site has pretty much everything, and there are always advance copies of albums.

yeah, they started out with the title, "pardon my blues". i think PF kind of ran with that one too. then "kissing the beehive". then zoomer. california dreamer has become the clear winner for me on that album.

i need to listen to the new walkmen album. i actually thought bows and arrows was the best album of 2004, but then last one they put out...not good. i've heard this one is a big comeback though.

Bows and Arrows is still their best work. You and Me reverts more back to everyone who pretended to like me, that kind of monotonous sound where the songs seem to run together. But it's much better than a hundred miles off.

exactly. i can't explain it. 5 seconds into the album and it was all over. i knew right away.

the middle group of songs aren't standing out as much. but the beginning and end destroy me (like bows & arrows actually).

Threw in 7 Seconds - Soulforce Revolution on the way to work today since I didn't feel like trying to find a Sirius channel this AM. Easily one of my top 5 favorite CDs.

I used to have Scream Real Loud in there too, which is a good live mix of old and new stuff, but I haven't seen it probably since the beginning of summer.

Thankfully I have it backed up.

So, anyone into Randy Newman and Bob Dylan? I have yet to listen to "Harps and Angels" but "The Bootleg Series Vol. 8" with rarities and outtakes covering the last 20 years is excellent. I got the 2 CD set, because the 3 CD Deluxe Edition is outrageously expensive. Maybe I'm not a true fan.
