Well duh... same could be said for almost any legal or illegal drug.

So not spending money on fighting marijuana crimes and gaining money from the sale of it will not increase tax revenue?
Libertarian blindness to the realities of our world.
Apparently you didn't read what yubb actually said. You just wanted to resort to attacking someone of opposite political views as usual.
Yes I read it and he is anti tax for any purposes. People want services from the government and the only way those services can be payed for is through taxation.

I assumed the cost savings would come from no longer imprisoning people for weed.

I think most people in this thread agree that the War on Drugs is stupid, but the issue does come down to taxation.

Increased revenues =/= "more services" or "decreasing the debt". In general, it simply leads to more spending and more waste. I don't even think this is a libertarian argument anymore...the proof is clearly in the pudding.

I'm for a national tax, which is specifically targeted to servicing the debt.

As great as my distaste is for Algore, if he was serious about his "lockbox" approach, that was a good idea.

As long as people are allowed to grow their own, the tax issue will soon become moot. Why would anyone pay $300 - $400 an ounce when they can grow it for almost nothing? The stuff is a weed, it's easier to grow than tomatoes.

I eat a lot of tomatoes, but I don't grow them.

It would be a mix, which would probably lean towards people not growing it themselves.

Your tomatoes don't cost 60-70 bucks a serving. I'd bet if the did, you'd consider growing them yourself.

If tomatoes cost $400 an ounce and you could store them in the freezer for year round use, I bet a lot more people would grow their own.

It would take at least a few years for the stigma to wear off, so I think a lot of people wouldnt want to grow their own. Discretion would be a priority at first.

Another thing about growing it... As far as I'm aware, there are different strains with different properties, yes? People will likely still buy for variety's sake.

Yes. If I were going to smoke weed, I'd go for one of the "up" varieties. Some people the "couch grabbing" kind.

I assume the seed / clone market would offer many options for the home grower. People currently grow many different varieties of heirloom tomatoes.

What makes you guys think the seeds/plants that people buy for home growing would be cheap to buy?

I don't necessarily think they'll be super cheap, but looking at how much you can grow with just one plant vs buying retail... it's going to be WAYYYY cheaper to just grow your own. The stuff grows like crazy.
