I recommend Mt St. Helen Vietnam Band...it's a long, stupid name but it's they're sweet.
Also if you were into the mid-late 90's punk revival scene (bouncing souls, nofx, rancid) check out the Gaslight Anthem.

Heard them on Sirius a few weeks ago. Catchy.Troy Loney wrote:

I'd like to hear more before I give an official thumbs up.
I heard this song over the weekend, and it's been stuck in my head since.

Re: Let's talk about music
I was gonna do a free MP3 thread (something I've seen on a few other boards), but didn't know how it'd go over.
The way it was posted elsewhere, they were all demo MP3s, songs posted on a public site, DJ sets, or songs by smaller lesser known groups who are unsigned. You know, the stuff that was without a doubt legal.
Thoughts?
Until then, I ran across this: http://rapidshare.com/files/156092088/O ... k.zip.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
For those who skated in the late 80s or early 90s, a lot of the songs might look familar. I'm certain that all these bands were either released on their own label on a limited run or recorded strictly for the video.

Re: Let's talk about music
Because of that one song that they keep playing over and over on the radio (Give you Hell), I jacked the album it came from, from The All American Rejects. Good thing I didn't pay for it. Wow that band is horrible. They got lucky with one catchy song and the rest of the album is complete poo. I deleted it because even though I'm only 30g out of 80g on my iPod, I don't want it polluting anything.
Anyway, someone got me into this band called Architecture in Helsinki. Pretty good stuff. I don't know if they are popular or not, I don't normally listen to anything punkish/alternative/emo, but they are pretty musical compared to most of those crap bands. They have more than 3 instruments at least lol.

They're pretty well known...atleast in the "underground" music scene, they're a lot like los campesinos.Anyway, someone got me into this band called Architecture in Helsinki. Pretty good stuff. And yeah all american rejects are a bunch of pansies....here are some cool songs i've come across lately:
Cut Off Your Hands - Turn Cold
Black Lips - Starting Over
Heartless Bastarts - The Mountain
The Hold Steady - Atlantic City (Springstein Cover)
Andrew Bird - Giant of Illinois (cover of something)
Dan Deacon - Padding Ghost
Bricolage - Turn U Over
Swan Lake - Paper Lace
Cursive - From the Hips
The Strange Boys - Who Needs Who More

Troy, I gotta give it to you. 9 times out of 10, whenever you post some new band you like, I have never even heard of them. That's good. Underground music's where it's always been.

My tension span for music is just really low, I constantly need to sift through new genres and styles to find things...

Surprise Your Pig - A Tribute To REM
01. Radio Free Europe - Just Say No
02. 1,000,000 - Band of Susans
03. Stumble - Gumball
04. We Walk - Steel Pole Bath Tub
05. Talk About the Passion - Samson And The Philistines
06. Pretty Persuasion - Jawbreaker
07. (Don't Go Back to) Rockville - J-Church
08. Feeling Gravity's Pull - Phleg Camp
09. Can't Get There from Here - The Mr. T Experience
10. Good Advices - Flor De Mal
11. Bandwagon - The Punchline
12. I Believe - When People Were Shorter and Lived Near Water
13. It's the End of the World as We Know It (And I Feel Fine) - Vic Chesnutt
14. Get Up - King Missle
15. Losing My Religion - Tesco Vee's Hate Police
16. Low - Jawbox
17. Shiny Happy People - Mitch Easter
A bunch of REM cover songs. Some of the groups I've heard of, some I haven't.
Took me forever to find the CD, since I thought Jawbreaker covered Low. They didn't, but they are on the CD covering another song. It was Jawbox that covered Low, which may be the best song on the CD. Actually I think I like their version better than the original.
I'd link to youtube, but there's nothing out there. If I find something 'legal', I'll try to remember to come back to post it.

I've been blown away by these two bands lately. Very indie/Ambient. If you're into that kinda vibe, check these two bands out.

Whoever said Veruca Salt...G R E A T ! I have all their discs. Great Stuff. I would suggest Nina Gordon's solo stuff as it is very Veruca Salt-ish!

Fiona Apple has a new album?
I just bought all those Collector's Edition double CDs of New Order's first five albums, I just couldn't resist.

i love the walkmen. and ive seen them once. im lukewarm to KOL because i like some of their stuff, and not so much their latest album. so i was thinking, ya i'll dig this show. then i saw the ticket prices. forget it. those guys aren't that big. maybe in the UK, but not here. and boy do they dig KOL overseas.
yeah $40 something is outgrageous...but i got a free ticket.

To my knowledge, Fiona (yummy) has not released an album since 2005's "Extraordinary Machine."Gaucho wrote:Fiona Apple has a new album?

And New Order is, without a doubt, one of the world's most underrated bands.

New Dylan album on Friday, woohoo!
I'll also see Sonic Youth live in Düsseldorf that day. Should be interesting, since the last Sonic album I purchased and know is Dirty. Which is from 1991. Sheesh, I'm getting old...

From what I've heard he was only supposed to record a song for a soundtrack and sort of got carried away.Troy Loney wrote:Murray St was actually pretty cool...i'm not a fan of sonic youth...i've given them a lot of chances....just can't get into it.Gaucho wrote:New Dylan album on Friday, woohoo!![]()

Re: Let's talk about music
listening to Pure right now. Heard them today while listening to 102.1 EDGE.
I thought they might have sounded kinda familar, so I went to wiki to see if they had a listing. Not much of a history that I could find about them. Had a few songs banned from MuchMusic in the early 90s, including the song "Anna" (the song I'm listening to right now, which can be heard here.) Turns out they had a few songs that made it onto different movies. Tennis Ball made it into the baseketball movie but not onto the soundtrack, and Greedy made it onto one of my favorite soundtracks of the 90s, Songs From Cool World.

Rolling Stone has been touting the new Dylan as best since Modern Times.Gaucho wrote:From what I've heard he was only supposed to record a song for a soundtrack and sort of got carried away.Troy Loney wrote:Murray St was actually pretty cool...i'm not a fan of sonic youth...i've given them a lot of chances....just can't get into it.Gaucho wrote:New Dylan album on Friday, woohoo!![]()

Supposedly the new album is very Tex-Mex-ish. Should be interesting.
