Gretzky outscored Kurri in goals 6 of the 8 seasons they played together so unless you're saying Crosby is going to be a 60+ goal scorer the comparison doesn't make sense.

Can you imagine the headache for opposing coaches with only one defensive pairing capable of matching a top line? The best would be having the last change and Therrien putting his third line on the ice against the top defensive pairing unit of the opposition. It will force that team to stay on the ice or go for the quick change. If Therrien doesn't utilize a strategy like this and team doesn't win the Cup, I think he's gone.
if (big if) we manage to sign hossa, in a few years we're going to have to fill a lot of our spots with cheap talent - probably young guys. i think therrien's gotten a lot more out of our young talent than most coaches would, so the next generation of draft picks would be well suited to be under MT.

I actually did some comparative analysis on Crosby's maximum potential in terms of points produced. I compared EVERY player in history that averaged around 1.5 points per game during the first three years of their career (Gretz, Sid, Lemieux, Lindros, Messier, etc) and made a projection taking into consideration goals scored per game in today's NHL versus the 1980's and 1990's.
Crosby's career high season will look something like this: 62g, 127a, 189 pts. assuming that he plays all 82 games that year. I think he will top out at 180 in his best season. But there is no question he could tally 140+ for a number of years. But, anything can happen....
