Cant' blame him for that one. Two guys went to Hecht which left Briere all kinds of room in front...wondermoose wrote:He's waiting for the right moment to collapse. Don't worry, it happens every year, and I see no reason why it would be any different this time around.Fast B wrote:That was absolutely brutal. And it means this series has the potential to get very, very ugly. Should be entertaining.
And what's up with Esche looking like Roy out there?

Yeah, me too for some reason. I got the vague feeling when I was watching Edmonton the other night, but not as much.tom_servo wrote:Watching tonight's highlights made me yearn for playoff hockey in Pittsburgh more than ever.
I guess it might be because Buffalo and Philly are familiar playoff foes.
It's going to be awesome when we finally get back into the playoffs. NHL playoff hockey is second to no sporting event.

He was clearly knocked senseless. He was completely motionless, eyes rolling around, yet his head was up off the ice. It was truly scary looking! Kind of zombie-like.guiner wrote:oh he was knocked out, no doubt, his eyes were open, but their was nothing going on in there.MrKnowNothing wrote:I'm surprised he didn't get knocked out. That was about as hard as you can get hit.
He's not going to skate with his head down anymore.
That is a textbook clean hit. The puck was right there, Campbell did not get his elbow or anything up at all. It was actually a great hit, despite the fact that Umberger has got to have a concussion.

There was a callout in today's paper about how consistent Sid has been with his point totals on a monthly basis. Along with that, they had a list of his top points totals per opponent. Guess who he complied the most points against? The Flyers, Isles, Rangers and New Jersey...all conference foes! When the Pens get back to the playoffs, it is going to be a blast!MrKnowNothing wrote:Yeah, me too for some reason. probably had to do with the fact the Penguins played those teams 4 more times each than any other teams.Pitts wrote:There was a callout in today's paper about how consistent Sid has been with his point totals on a monthly basis. Thanks for clarifying my point. Not that it should have needed it. The point is Crosby will turn into a conference killer for us!ville5 wrote:Reilly wrote:Of course he played more games against conference foes. The point is, Crosby PRODUCED in those games. I'd figure there would be someone here with the typical resonse about the Flyers looking for retrobution..typical Pens fan mentality..let by gones be bygones fighting is ugly and should have no part of hockey.
As for Umberger, he'll be in the lineup tonight, only a broken nose. Clean hit but there will be retrobution that's what it takes.
What's all this talk about Esche choking? When did he ever choke in the playoffs? He took the Flyers to one goal away from the Cup finals with so many injuries he had his forwards playing defense. Is he usually as solid as he was on Saturday? No not many goalies are..I just don't understand where everyone acts like he's some bum that has been a past playoff choker.

Well, I wouldn't say all Penguin fans. I could easily state that all Flyer fans are.....well, I don't want to get banned. Anways, if a hit like that was put on a Penguin I would expect the exact same actions to take place. It's part of the game. It's to be expected.FlyerNation wrote:I'd figure there would be someone here with the typical resonse about the Flyers looking for retrobution..typical Pens fan mentality..let by gones be bygones fighting is ugly and should have no part of hockey.

As for Esche, I really don't consider him a top notch goalie and if anybody blows it for the Flyers this year it would be him in my opinion. I just don't feel he's solid.
Exactly. You have to come to the aid of your mates whether it was clean or not. Still no one on the Flyers I'm sure felt it was dirty but still it was a blatant hit to the head. If Cambell of all people is going around knocking guys around you have to send a message, that they're not going to allow it to happen regardless if the refs will protect them.PittsburghSportsFan wrote:Well, I wouldn't say all Penguin fans. Esche certainly isn't as bad as what some of you make him seem. He's good enough to carry a team in the playoffs. He won't be the reason the Flyers will lose if they do..he'll do his part. The offense or lack there of will be the reason they lose if they do.

Yeah to a point. It became an annual event. If there is any team in the sport that it's just a joy to knock out of the playoffs it's the Leafs and thier arrogant fanbase and media. We've had some great battles over the years but still it would have been different this year because the Leafs are not the same team they were. Domi is only half the warrior he used to be, Tucker is now their scorer so he won't be involved in as much hijinx but to act like he's been shot on every play, Belfour was out so I always enjoy lighting the drunk up. I'll miss Cherry whining between every period. So yeah I'll miss them in the playoffs but even if they made it it wouldn't have been the same especially without Primeau to embarass McCabe every shift.wondermoose wrote:FlyerNation, as a Philly fan, are you disappointed there won't be a Flyers/Leafs series this year? I was personally really starting to enjoy those two teams beating the crap out of each other.
As for Umberger...I think it says alot about Pittsburgh kids to come back and play the next game. Hell he wanted to return that night but wasn't allowed. So much for TSN's specualtion he'll be out for the playoffs. Umberger is a tough kid evident by his return after the Holloweg hit earlier. He's a warrior and Pittsburgh should be proud to call him a hometown boy. He's been one of the biggest surprised for the Flyers this year. It's not hard to see why he went in the 1st. you guys always talk how tough PIttsburgh is well he's a perfect example right there.
