So using your logic, if I'm standing beside someone I can't see him with my peripheral vision?? Hogwash! I elbow my hubby in the ribs all the time without ever glancing in his direction!Jesse wrote:

Gauthier was fully aware that Dumont was there...that's what d-men are taught to do.

That's not quite correct. They didn't know what happened at first because it happened so fast. But it was the Flyers commentator that said Dumont just had surgery & 'how unfortunate...hope it wasn't in that area...'I did not know Dumont just had surgery and neither did the Flyer announcers because they were completely stumped as to why he dropped like he did. It looked like nothing in the replay but if it tore open an old incision I can understand Dumont's reaction.
When they went to break & watched the replays, it was & it was done with a swift jab to the incision area with Gauthiers blade.

Dumont skated into Gauthier's stick which was already waist high. I don't know how any of you can say that was a penalty. It was an unfortunate incident but nothing intentional.
Although I would tend to agree that it was not intentionally ment to spear Dumont, I find it funny that you say he skated into it. That is almost an incredulous statement. He full intended to get a piece of Dumont with his stick, the results were a spear. There is no way on this earth you can convince me that Dumont skated into that stick.

As for the Sabres', they would have been well served to actually play in the second period. The Flyers took advantage of some lazy play and made them pay for it.
What's more, Forsberg is a great player, but how about Handzus on the PK? Up until yesterday I did not realize how good he was positionally and at reading the play while shorthanded.
Thats not True, I base my observation completely independent assesment of who the offending player was. I don't care who did it period. That was a spear, not intended to be, but that is what it was.
IMO, if Buffalo is to win the series, they need to play fast hockey and obviously contain Forsberg and Gagne somehow. The Flyers have to continue to slow the game down. They overwhelmed Miller down low and it paid off last night.
It doesn't help that Buffalo couldn't pot a power play goal to save their life.

This was intended to be a response to a quote from Delpen, which I strongly disagree with. No way he skated into that. This is exactly why I can never root for the flyers, the blind Philly fans are so jaded and so subhuman. A city that boos a man going out on a back board, apparently with a spinal injury and then throws iceballs at Santa while booing him deserves what it gets. I wish we could let them just become part of New Jersey and cast them off.Ron` wrote:Dumont skated into Gauthier's stick which was already waist high. I'm sure that Gauthier went to the local Buffalo hospitals, sequestered the medical records and thoroughly studied the location of the incision. In fact, he probably practiced spearing him directly in the incision area without looking numerous times on a dummy in the hotel room.Ginger wrote:

Please, I hate the Flyers as much as the next guy, but Gauthier didn't appear to make any malicious kind of motion towards DuMont. If anything, Dumont ran into Gauthier.
Has that dirty player that is Gauthier done some other stuff this series that was no good? Yes. Was that "spear" on Dumont as malicious? Not even close.

The fact that Philly leads the league in being shorthanded has nothing to do with the way they acted in Game 2 right? How about the fact that Buffalo is a much faster team? It could not be that the slower Philly defenseman are having to hold onto the faster Buffalo forwards right?FlyerNation wrote:I feel better knowing the fix was in. Here I thought the league was actually screwing us since we lead the league in being shorthanded 28 times. Those crazy refs and Colin Cambell.. they got it all figured out. If we win this series no one will ever think they gave it to us.

Yep, the total penalties is irrelevant. If the Flyers hook and hold every shift, they are bound to get caalled. My guess is they get called for about one in four infractions they commit, while it's more like one in two for Buffalo.Goalie wrote:The fact that Philly leads the league in being shorthanded has nothing to do with the way they acted in Game 2 right?
