Something different. I own two plain Seiko's (dressy), a really old Swatch (plastic-y), and a Timex IronMan Datalink (digital-y). My iPhone handles alarms so I'm just looking for something different. Seems I'm intrigued by chronographs... and Tomas' wind-powered Eco-drive is interesting.
I strongly endorse Citizen Eco-drive. Have had mine for 7+ years now and it is still going strong. And I live in Sweden with not much sun during winter
$300? I think I paid $300 for my ESQ (Esquire) watch a few years back. It's my favorite and I have no plans to discard it any time soon. Great watch + looks beautiful. I'm not sure they make this model anymore, but check out their webpage, RJ.

If you like chronographs, I'd checkout the Ecodrive (nice watch for the money and highly rated) or a watch company that I highly rate and love their watches: Luminox (http://www.luminox.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;).
I wore two different Luminox watches over a 10 year period. IMO, their quality is right in line/a bit lower than Tag Heuer watches.
Luminox watches were designed for military/law enforcement. I never had one issue with their watches and loved them (still have them) but they are now packed away because I was fortunate a few years back and got a Breitling.

Their prices seem to have really gone up. I'm looking at Macy's. Mine would be like the $595 Stratus model, but I like my older model better - it has a silver bracelet, a black face, and 3 GOLD dials (instead of white). A bit more expensive than $300, but gorgeous and worth every penny - looks cool and dressy at the same time.
I've had a Seiko Kinetic for about 9 years now. Still works like the day I got it. I know they are mostly metal bands, but for anyone else thinking of one, I couldn't recommend them higher.

Which Breitling did you get? I decided that I am at a point in my life when I need one "serious watch" (read 'toy') and I have been looking at Breitling and Tag Heuer as the front runners. Right now I'm leaning toward Tag Heuer Link Chrono, but Breitling watches really do look cool as well.

I have a Breitling Emergency Mission watch (due to a lot travel to non-US friendly countries I was always doing for work).
That is a really nice watch. Love the gold accents. My ESQ is the same way. It not only has the 3 small gold dials, but also the 4... I don't know what they're called... the markers up/down/left/right on the outside. And the crown and the 2 buttons are also gold for me.
Thing about Breitling watches I don't generally like is that they are very "cluttered", but yours is one of the prettiest ones I saw yet.
One note. I have a problem supporting companies that overcharge just because their name and reputation allows them. Here's a $99,000 Breitling (super sale! - yeah, like someone who's willing to pay $99K for a watch won't pay the full $174K). Have they gone crazy?
That's one badass James Bond-esque watch! I just don't think my Czech electric utility clients plan to hold me hostage in Prague anytime soon!
I think I'd eventually end up with Tag Heuer Link Chrono (as a kid, I always liked that logo on F1 cars) though paying $2K+ for a watch is still crazy (especially considering that my first car - a kick-ass Celica with only 40K miles - cost me $5,600). Of course, compared to, say, engagement rings...

I bought the watch when I was living in San Francisco at a Tourneau store. They kept trying to sell me on watches they had in stock but I was such a pain in the butt because once I saw this watch, I fell in love with it. And if you're going to spend that kind of money...you better love it!
Anytime the battery has stopped or anything else, any Breitling dealer takes the watch back with no questions and ships it back to the factory for a full re-condition. I've had mine sent back once every 12 months or so for normal checks and they never charge a penny, even for shipping. The watch comes back looking brand new everytime.

Hahahahahaha. I did a lot of work in Eastern Europe (Belarus, etc) and the Middle-East. I have a few stories where there were almost times I needed the watch
I love Tags. They are great watches and I've been looking at getting one for my next watch.
I know what you mean My first car was a 1988 Toyota Camry with 100,000 miles on it
If you're still looking, I would recommened checking out overstock.com they usually have some pretty good prices and a pretty wide selection from the looks of the things:
What do you guys think about this one here? All this watch talk got me looking at watches and this one caught my eye. It's a bit too smooth-looking for my liking, but then it seems kind of nice for a sports coat or something more dressy than I normally wear.
